good starting points for mods?

Seen a Spartan at my lhs on sale for 250 as they we're having a winter clearance. So I put a deposit on it until my tax comes in so ordering an aluminum cooling jacket larger lines second set of tabs and adjusters transom pick up and aluminum outlets so hopefully this will be a good starting point any other suggestions will be great and only going to run 4s haha

Sounds like you have the basics covered. Running on 4S, and those mods, you shouldn't have any troubles with over heating.

That is a good price on a new in box Spartan, do you know if it is the new version with Castle Electronics? It should be, but at that low price I'm wondering if maybe they are blowing out some really old stock of version 1 Spartans.

Hi Kevin really appreciate the help just to clarify it is the new version as I spotted the castle logo on the esc it was the first thing I checked before making a deposit I think the store owner had no idea that it was the latest version because when I asked him about it he didn't seem that knowledgeable about FE boats so I guess it was a lucky score for me haha

Sweet deal for you.

When you purchase lipo batteries for it, be sure to get batteries with a good high C rating. You can run something like 5000mah 30C batteries, but I would recommend going 45C or better to give yourself lots of discharge capability.

hi kevin yes it certainly is and thanks i already have a few 40c zippy flightmax batteries as i also have a apparition with a leopard motor etc as i want to race both of them.

The beauty of the club i am joining has only just started so its mostly just FE boats sv27s ,geicos etc.

Two people there already run spartans with good success but they are running leopard and tacon motors.

But it doesnt bother me as im still learning to drive properly id rather have a reliable set up that can run all day and have loads of fun. Im not looking for a 50 mph plus boat otherwise i wouldnt have brought the spartan lol but they are such a sexy boat its truly a pity they aint fibreglass and can be quite expensive for what they are.

Have fun with your new Spartan.
Now I know you have some experience with FE boating I won't bother with the really basic stuff you obviously already know.
I have run the Leopard and Tacon motors in my Spartans with the Turnigy 180 ESC and they have proven to be solid reliable setups, I'm sure the stock components will serve you well based on your sensible and informed expectations of the Spartan.
And I agree, if they could do this hull in fiberglass, it would be sweet.

Ya know, an 1800kv motor like the Spartan has, is what alot of folks would consider a 4s motor anyways. Now you can keep the drivetrain stress to a minimum and run a real prop. Consider throwing an x642 or Prather s220 on it.

Hi wake thanks ill place one of those props on there as soon as I can and I totally agree 1800 KB is way to high for 6s and besides all I have is 2s packs I may run. 6s down the track but I would definitely run a lower IV leopard and t 180 and run an upgraded driveline but I'm more than happy to run 4s and keep it reliable and very drivable :) should be plenty quick enough for. Me on 4s with a good prop as I can.barely handle my leopard powered apparition lol and sorry. About the grammar still learning to use my phone
