Aeromarine three piece coupler. 5mm x .150 to fit the stock flex shaft size.

Check here at OSE, and Kintec Racing, rcraceboat

This collet is a fair bit larger than the stock one, it is a tight fit on the Spartan but they do fit without modification and they work well. I have been running them since day 1 on mine.

Get a new flex cable as well, If the coupler spun on the cable enough to cook the coupler, the cable is most likely weak now as well.

Spartan drive is a .150 flex cable. The stub shaft is 5mm that steps down to 3/16" to accommodate "standard" 3/16" drive dogs and propellers.

Make sure you order a flex drive made specifically for the Spartan or it may not fit.

Jeff Wohlt (rcraceboat.com) makes nice upgraded drives for the Spartan.

No...it is 5mmshaft stepped down. I make them 5mm stepped down to 3/16 for normal props with 10/32 threads. 150 or 187 or 078 wire. Liner must be removed for 187 cable but when running big props you want a 187 cable brazed. I have sold 100s...sucks as they mainly keep me busy and they have to be lathed, threaded and all that.

Jeff is of course correct, 5mm shaft stepped down to 3/16".

I have corrected the typo in my post to avoid future confusion.

I thought it was 5mm stepped down, thanks for that confirmation Jeff!

Hydro & Marine sell 5mm step down to 3/16" drives too but, if you can get it from Jeff, you're better off!!! I don't trust H&M anymore after the chinese hulls they are flogging at very high prices are no better than some on ebay.

Sorry guys, I'm a RC boat nube....need some help. Ran for the first time on 2s today and snapped my factory flex shaft. I'm on Wohlt's website but have no idea what parts I need from him to make the upgrade properly. I want what will work best and last longer than the stock. What should I grab from him to make the swap and would the Wire be best? Thanks guys!

I run Jeff's .187 cable in one Spartan, and his .078 wire in the other. Both are performing flawlessly.

I have a very slight preference for the wire drive, but I like the beefy aeromarine coupler I run with the .187 cable.

You will need your choice of drive line, .150 (stock size), or .187 flex cable, or the .078 wire drive.

If you go with .150 the stock coupler will work, but consider upgrading to better quality coupler. If you go with the .187 or wire drive, you will need the appropriate sized coupler to fit a 5mm motor shaft. i.e. 5x.187 or 5x.078.

Also Jeff's shafts use a 10-32 prop nut instead of the 4mm stock prop nut.

Thanks Kevin. So they can all work in the stock tube? I saw some stuff that said there was filing to do on some and some they couldn't use the Teflon liner. That all threw me off. I just want something simple, change the shaft, collet and nut and I'll be happy. I have a Prather 220 s/s prop I want to out on there too at some point.

If you run the .187 you have to run without the liner, or you can purchase a custom stuffing tube that is 9/32 diameter that steps down to 1/4 to fit through th grommet in the hull. These are available from Kintec racing.

You can run the wire drive in the stock tube.

Just a heads up, if you run that 220 prop you will add torque to the drive line, so I would suggest not using the .150 cable.

More importantly, if you are running the stock electronics the 220 will overload the system and fry the ESC. You will need to upgrade to an ESC with a higher amp rating if you want to run larger props. The turnigy/seaking 180 amp is a popular choice.

If you stay with the stock electrics it is widely recommended to stay with either an Octura x442 or Prather 215.

                              Kevin

EDIT: The reference to filing: you will need to file a small flat on the prop stub shaft to seat the set screw for the drive dog. It is easy to do if you have a small file.
