    Spartan hatch

Those who have a Spartan know that the hatch is impossible to tape, and their manual suggest there is no need.

Anybody flip one? How did it handle the water being updide down

I would always tape it. I always want to protect the electronics as much as I can.
CF Fightercat Daytona, 21 year old Hitec Sea Nymph, Genesis and many more to come im sure.

Yes they will flip, yes they will fill up with water, yes the water will pour in if you use reverse, and yes the hatch will occasionally pop off during a high speed spill and buoy the boat.

But you can take precautions. Taping the hatch as best you can and using weather stripping, and, not using reverse or installing an after market splash guard will help

Or you can modify the hatch similar to what I did to fill in the holes and make it easier to tape the hatch fully. http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ight=hatch+mod

I have a Spartan, mine is the 1st Gen version that came stock with the traxxas motor and ESC. I flipped it last season, she filled right up with water and went nose up. I pulled all the electonics out of it to let them dry out but it was no use, the ESC fried!! On the bright side traxxas did replace the motor and ESC with the updated Castle units under warrenty, so it should be a better set-up now.

An update on the Spartan. I have now run it several times over a couple days, and it has performed flawlessly. It is very stable, and ran very well on a pond in 15mph winds, and a medium chop.

With a 3000Mah 7 cell NiMH pack, the speed was good, and I got about 15 minutes of run time, running rather aggressively. I should get a few minutes more from my 4200Mah pack. When I recharged the 3000 Mah's, they took 3400 Mah.........and about 72 minutes of charge time, on a HiTec X4, AC plus charger. So I used most all of the power in the battery.

I will get a video to post, and see if I can get a speed number. Looks to me like perhaps 30+mph. I have a portable GPS, but it is very heavy, and would put a good deal of add'l. weight (6 oz.) in the boat. It is a garmin 665 ZUMO that I use on my Harley. I think my son has a small lite weight unit.
