    Spartan Bulkhead/Garmin Idea

I've been wanting to set up a GPS to get some speeds, but rather than setting the GPS off to one side, I've ordered some carbon fiber plank to build a forward bulkhead to wall off the front. I'm going to epoxy it in leaving room at the bottom for water to leave the front. That would give me a place to velcro the Garmin Forerunner 201. Anybody done this yet? I don't think the weight will matter much and it's out of the way of any heat or water.

Oh, and I bought 2 Garmins so if anybody looking for a used Forerunner 201, I'm going to sell it for $85 + shipping. PM me if interested. I bid on two auctions and won both. Oops.

Sounds like a good idea. I have my SV apart right now for painting and may try to do the same thing. Can you post photo's when you get yours done? get

        Phase 1 Completed

Well, I got the carbon fiber plank and the GPS so I'm just waiting on the mount to arrive so I can epoxy it to the new bulkhead. Then I will be able to mount and easily remove my Garmin Forerunner 201 from the new forward bulkhead..

So far, I used a cardboard template to model the bulkhead to fit all the way up against the styrofoam at the front of the Spartan. I used the template to cut the carbon fiber and used plastic epoxy to mount it. I was sure to leave room at the bottom for water to leave the front of the boat. It's sealed along the sides and bottom to keep it in place. I'll post more pics once the mount is on. Let me know what you think. It's a great way to keep the GPS centered and out of harms way.

Found the photos in the e-mail. Dang, that looks like it came with the boat. Great job!! I have an SV and was thinking about a spot in front of the engine and make a mount out of balsa to just hold the GPS in place in case of a flip or something.

Thanks! That's what I was going for. I ordered the handlebar mount for the Garmin so I can use the plastic mount from it. I'm just going to Dremal off whatever isn't necessary. That way I have a good firm mount and can remove it easily for charging. It also keeps the buttons free of obstruction so you can reset it without removing it from the boat.

Handle bar mount? I'll have to look into that before I do something esle. Sounds like that may work for me also.

I have an Garmin E-trex, so I will have to look into what is offered for that.

Here's the finished product....just like I imagined it.

                        Finally got the mount in.

                        Plenty of room.

Just like it was made that way.

Looks really good. Your GPS is way smaller than mine you lucky dog.
