    prop question

    Hi,
I just bought a new Spartan.

what is the best prop to use?

can I use my old 42x55 or M445 props? I am new to the boating world.

    Thanks.

You can use the 42x55 with no question, but it is less pitch than the stock 42x59 prop so you will see a loss in speed with that prop.

The M445 might work ok, but I would be cautious with that prop with the stock Traxxas electronics. the M445 is 45x63 so it is both larger diameter and higher pitch. This prop should give you a performance boost, but there is no shortage of testimony on the forums that indicate the stock electronics are already pushed to the max with the stock prop.

Several guys are going with either an X442 which is pretty much a direct replacement for the stock prop at 42x58.8. The metal prop will give some performance advantage because it won't flex like the stock fibre prop.

Or, the P215 at 40.6x63.5, which is slightly smaller in diameter, but more pitch than the stock prop.

Personally, I don't run the stock electrics, so hopefully a few others who do will chime in and you can benefit from their direct experience.

        its the "snap-on" tool edition.

So it should be a Gen 2 right?

And thank you for the info Steve.

So this is your second boat? Where have you been running? I ran my Spartan I built from scratch, yesterday for the second time, and almost burned itto the ground due to sinking it and the ESC arching fire, lol. Good thing it was a cheap $35 one.

Yes, it's a gen 2. I have read on the Traxxas forums that a Prather 220 will do good with the stock Castle electronics. If you get one and need it sharpened and ballancedd, give me a call. I'll gladly do it for free.

            How are you doing?

I have been running at the park off of grand ave in chino hills, its all I know of around here since I cant get into Prado.
I bought the spartan new in the box, off of craigslist, it was a deal that I could not pass it up. I still might sell it and make some money, but if I do keep it, I will try that prop you mentioned. (thank you for the offer)
            and thanks for the info.
where do you run at by the way?

              I'm good, thanks.

Right now I drive pretty far to run my boats. I drive to Hanson Dam which is in Lake View Terrace. I go out there at least 2xs a month but I'm sending in for my NAMBA card this month so I can run at The Prado and Legg Lake. A guy I met on Youtube told me he runs at Prado and that he's the only 1 with a NAMBA card and him and his buddies run boats all day. I guess the rangers only care that "someone" has one.

Here is a link to our group. I go by "losifiend" on RC Groups.http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...17749&page=366 Post 5483 on the page I linked to shows our latest outing, yesterday. That's me at the table with the white Spartan and blue mono. Asides from a sanctioned place to run with no NAMBA menbership, the group of guys there are awesome. I think I drive more for the socializing and learning than anything else, lol.

I used to run there but it's infested with turtles now. But shoot me a PM next time you head down there and I'll meet you there with 1 of my boats.

I know it's a big boat but if you can keep it, I would say you do. I really like mine!
