Been away from the sport/hobby for about 7months, could someone enlighten me on the Spartan?

Have they fixed andthe initial problems and how? How do you ID the newer version from the older one?

I still like the looks of this boat and trying to get back up to speed on it! Don't want to invest the money if it is not right!

if the box says it has castle system then your good. look at esc and motor if it says castle you are good. hope this helps.

Traxxas has made an effort to correct the initial problems with ESC's and motors overheating and failing.

The new Castle components are showing to be an improvement over the original components, but be aware that there have already been a few reported failures of the new Castle ESC.

It is still a bit too early to know for certain if the updated components will prove reliable in the long run, but they are definitely better than what Traxxas originally offered in the Spartan.

After having one, I would stay away, you can get a lot more bang for your buck.

I agree, there are yet some issues with the castle/traxxas esc
Proboat Impulse 31 could be a good buy for you....
