    traxxas spartan fire

Well I was running my Spartan today it caught fire. It was just running ducks under a wave. It comes up no response. Then I see smoke coming out then I hear a poof. I thought it was my lipos but luckily not.
    So the set-up was-
    Tacon 1700 kv motor
    Swordfish 120 amp
    stock prop.
    Also all this was new.
    So now to the pics-

Here you can see what the pop I heard was. See the hole-

Ok so here is the Hull I had to work with the burn marks-

The moral is not to buy the swordfish from ose.

Nice clean-up! I appreciate your frustration but OSE doesn't manufacture ESCs. I don't understand the comment "not to buy the swordfish from ose". There are a number of explanations for the failure that fried your boat. OSE does not fall into the mix. Good luck

that's right we can't blame OSE for what others manufacture. but Steve might help with why you had a fire

If you go i'n traxxas forum i posted some info.... But. I stopped when i read : 120 amp esc and a 1700kv motor.... Hmmmmmm maybe i'n a car? But not the best match on 6s i'n a boat too much continuous current draw..... Hope everything works out hate to see stuff like this . It makes me worry about mine . Which is a part of this hobby but one thing we all dread happening. That esc might have been great with a 1400kv or so but not with that 1700kv. Did you have like a "watts up meter? Or an eagle tree system? Thanks for reading ...

Wrong esc choice, bud. Your own error, not the electronics.

You ran the esc to the limit on voltage, and more than likely WAY past it's amperage rating.

Agreed with all. Many people are successful running escs to there voltage limit but I never try it. I will not go higher then 5s on any 2-6s rated esc. Many stories like this one. Add the combo of 42,000 unloaded rpm (why to high for anything other then saw, target range should be high 20k to low 30k) and maxing voltage lead to this failure. It's not OSE's fauly or Hifei's fault (swordfish are great esc's by the way). JMHO

Maybe it blew because it was in a Traxxas brand boat?

Did you disconnect the bec on the swordfish when you ran it on 6s?

Even though the 180 will handle the amp draw better, I still wouldn't recommend running a 2-6s esc at the max voltage. Your setup with the motor and esc you have is much MUCH better as a 5s setup. Running 6s on that T-180 (even though people do it), is not really reliable.

If this was my setup. I would run 5s2p with the bec disconnected and a smaller diam prop with a little pitch like a m640 s215 or s220 and have a reliable setup. JMHO

I kind of doubt it, if you read through the various threads here I think you will find the common experience of most Spartan owners is that Traxxas went above and beyond and manufactured this product with only the highest quality components.

That motor and ESC should have felt right at home.
