I have a Mamba Monster Max laying around and was wondering if it would be a good fit in the Spartan? This motor originally came in my Savage Flux....if it will work, would it be a good fit with the stock ESC or should I get the Sea King? Thanks.

I wouldnt use either. You cant get a cooling jacket over the truck motor with the heat sink fins on it. There have been a few that ran that esc in boats, but I wouldnt do it for an extended period of time. Your better off with a marine specific esc and a smooth can motor. Search the Spartan threads here and you will find everything you need to know. Id use a SeaKing 180 esc and a 40mm Leopard with your choice of kv depending on what voltage you want to run. -

What size is the motor? 1515, 1520, etc.
OSE has cooling jackets for some of the finned Castle Motors.

They have them, but they are out of stock...would that motor work well with the Sea King 180a?Comment

The stock HPI motor will not accomodate a cooling jacket. Its different than the Castle cans. The HPI version has fins as in heat sinks that are tall. There is no jacket made to fit this motor.Comment

Yes, there are a few guys have successfully run that motor with the Turnigy/Seaking 180 amp ESC.
Personally I think it is too high of Kv for a 6S setup. Some who are running high Kv setups have reported flex drive problems.
That motor might be pretty good on a 4S setup though.
With right prop you could likely hit the claimed 50 mph mark on 4S.

If you dont have the funds to buy a marine esc and smooth can motor(or a green Castle motor), at least use a 180 esc and you can try the 2200kv truck motor,but use a small prop and run it on 4s. Dont run for more than a minute and check temps. If it were me though, I wouldnt use the motor in a boat.Comment

i have been using this set up for a while now, she is a screamer on 6s running a x442 getting 60mph.
haven't had any shaft issues yet although i have some spares just encase.
i have also disconnected the bec and have a separate power source. another thing that really helps with the flex lubrication is adding another rubber grommet in between the one that seals the stuffing tube on the transom and strut,this helps heaps to keep the grease in there.
if your going to run this set up make sure you get good batteries the higher the C rating the better also the higher the mah the better.Comment

Turnigy 180 AMP Water-cooled Electronic Speed Controller.
2 X 11.1 Volt 40C LIPO BATTERIES (5000mah) & series link lead for 22.2 VOLTS in a Apparition twin hull Catamaran and was thinking of using a x442 Prop,
