    Bolt Binding

I meant to mention this when I posted my trim tab water pick up mod, but forgot.

I ran into the problem again tonight with the tray bolts.

I'm finding the bolts on the Spartan want to bind in the plastic. A few have mine have seized up tight enough that I stripped out the hex head., and I needed vise grips to extract the bolts.

I'm finding plastic bound into the threads, usually very little on only a couple threads. I clean the threads with my fingernail or the tip of my pocket knife before reinstalling.

I have also been lubricating the threads before reinstalling the screws.

    BUT BEWARE

ABS plastic does not have good resistance to hydrocarbons, so petroleum base oils / greases would not be recommended (including Vaseline which is petroleum based)

Use mineral oil or a synthetic oil known to to be compatible with plastics. (I use Krytox GPL205 but this is not readily available and costs about $200 for an 8oz tube, so stick with mineral oil)

RECOMMENDED PRACTICE - clean the threads every time on the bolts before reinstalling, and use mineral oil to lubricate the threads.
