Ya I was one of the lucky guys to buy a slash 4x4 a week after release.....break all their garbage parts on it then ooops wait we havent shipped replacements to your hobby stores yet or done nearly enough testing(and yes I realize all products have flaws)....and then want bills for indivuidual broken parts like their junk esc that claimed to handle 3s then go boom after 3 runs.my local hobby store even got jammed by traxxas on 10 of the escs and said no more lol.I value the appeal of their product and they do what they do well,I am just an experienced buyer not some wide eyed kid or beginner...so even though me and many others hate them they have their audience captive apparently hahaha ! never again will I fund their cash machine. Many others obviously do though.I would rather give my money to ose for an order because this is good community that appreciates quality product Ie: no junk on here

I hear ya... I bought a few of the first vxl models... 2 rustlers and a stampede.... the first vxl esc's stuck... they had the connectors at a very bad location which made them easy to break which I did on all three... and in all three cases traxxas took care of it and sent me 3 new esc's....

And I have yet to see a toy that can come down from Motorcross triple jumps after clearing them all and landing on the flat.....chassis smacking the ground hundreds of time without breaking a part like my Erevo Brushless, defiantely wouldn't call it a toy.... I have had other supposidly super high end r/c's break things much more like toys.....

I gotta say i'm still looking foward to running the snot out the Spartan, i think for guy's like me that are just looking for a weekend fun runner it's gonna be good boat. I've done the hardcore racing thing, nitro's that is, and really have no intrest in gettin back too sactioned racing. Also, i have several friends that run alot of traxxas products and i have to say i'm impressed with them! It's definatly possibe the boat could turn out to be a hunk of crap, but i highly doubt that, we will have to wait and see. My only concern is the pricing on the motor and ESC, seems a bit high to me. I was planning on buying a Spartan motor and Vxl ESC and putting it into a cat hull, but for those prices i may reconsider...

I'm with you Checkmate, I know exactly what this is and what it isn't. I don't have false expectations. I'm going to enjoy an inexpensive turnkey boat. And I bet it will run pretty good. Then when I get tired of that I'll go back to working on my fast expensive boats :)

Just buy another complete boat. Towers price with discount for the entire package is cheaper than just a motor and ESC sold separately. Personally I have 2 on order.

Exactly ! You hit the nail right on the head. You'll likely have the last laugh while " enjoying an inexepensive turnkey boat that'll run pretty good". Personally, I'm driving myself into the poor house building "fast expensive" boats and would also enjoy some pure fun running minus the ever present "be careful to not let the expensive smoke out" paranoia" !
This thread seems to be split between those with this in mind, and the " Let's mod the piss out of the Spartan and see if it will take it" camp.
For those wanting hi-perf, man up & build a boat from a bare hull. For the pure pleasure of a happy day on the water, the Spartan unmodded , out of the box looks like like it'll be the perfect choice. There, I said it; flame suit on.

Nothing to flame, actually kinda nice to have such an endorsement from somebody who is obviously very into the hobby. This is the exact reason I have this boat on order. Maybe one day I will get into racing but I doubt it. Just want to have "reliable" fun on the water without having to spend literally thousands before finally getting it "almost" right. I have browsed the web looking at everything rtr out their and this one IMHO takes the cake and then some.

Bottom line is, if it is reliable it will be well worth the money. It is fast enough to be a lot of fun. Traxxas is good with replacement parts. It isnt a top notch hull hardware or components, but look at the price. Youre getting a lot for the money.

lets face it guys..... nothing is ever off the shelf perfect. why do people assume that nothing can go wrong or its a piece of garbage? nobody on here has ever purchased a boat or built one that has run perfect without any problems ever. i still hate the name tho

More time needs to be spent on the Spartan

The boat has been around for some time but not yet available to the public and all you guys can do is complain about what the boat will do when you don't really have a clue like me. So give the darn thing a chance before you complainand tell whatever you think is gona happen. Because the best thing I can truely say is videos and words don't tell about the aniamal until its stairing you down in the face. I know to many lies in rc because I ve used all name brands and all types being cars, helicopters, boats, planes you name it I've done it at least to some degree. So stop bickaring.
