    New Rudder

After getting lapped by my sons Mini Rio, I finally gave up on the steerable outdrive.

What I did was fiberglass the drive so its fixed in a straight position.
    Then added a micro rudder.
I also needed a linkage rod that was 1/4" longer.

I will be testing it this weekend.

Yes, the fin helped a bit, but still couldn't turn at full throttle. I cant wait to try it out. I have the same motor and batteries as my sons Rio, and the Mini V is faster, easily passing him in a drag race.

3s rocks in them, but they just didnt turn. 3s in the Rio, killed two rx/esc's on me.

I now use 6 cell 1600 nimh packs, so the kids can charge them without me having to worry.

                    Steven,
Did you get a chance to run it this weekend?
I am interested if the rudder works well. I had made my own rudder, bracket and brass strut and it turns better without hooking, but I still have issues with porpoising. I have placed lead weights in the bow trying to try to control the bouncing but it only helped marginally.
The boat is plenty fast I just wished it ran flatter.

                    Thanks,
                    Brad

It ran great, turned right perfectly. Left was a wider turn, but livable. It was well worth the 30 minutes it took for the conversion.

I haven't run 3s LIpo since last year, but remember it was like a jumping bean with that much power. I now just run 5 and 6 cell nimh.
