    Can I run 4S batteries on a stock boat?

    I've been running my boat with 2S2P 5300mAh 40C batteries. I've read a couple of posts where they where running 4S batteries on stock boats. Will the motor and ESC handle those batteries? Should I upgrade the connectors before running those batteries? I'm currently using Dean connectors.

    Thanks.

      So you've been running only 2s...........7.4 volts? Or have you been running TWO 2s packs in series for 4s or 14.8v?
      NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

          You're probably right..........two 2s batts and he's thinking thats 2s2p.

          If i'm taking him correctly, i think he has heard of folks running 4s batts..........probably 4s2p...........like a couple of 4s 3500mah's or so in parallel.

              Nope, you are running 4s plain and simple.

              S = series
              P = Parallel

              4s = 4 cells in series. Doesnt matter if its two 2 cells connected together pos. to neg. for series, its still 4s total voltage.

              4s2p as I mentioned earlier, is 4 cells in series(one 4s pack, or two 2s packs) paralled with another 4s pack for 4s2p, If two 4s batts were connected in series(pos to neg) then it would be 8s1p...........but the 1p is not stated in this case........only in the case of 2p, 3p etc........

                    Sorry for the delay guys. Got stuck at work. I'm running the stock motor and ESC in my Impulse 31. I'm running 2 2S 5300mAh 40C batteries. I'm new to RC boats so I'm a little lost. The reason I put 2S2P in the first post, is because that's what's on the battery. When I was reading the manual that came with the boat it mentions it's 4S compatible. The guy at the LHS told me to run the 2S batteries, so I was wondering if I can run 2 4S batteries (more power = more speed, right.). So I'm assuming I'd have to reprogram the ESC to handle the extra voltage, but will the motor and ESC take it. Also, would I have to upgrade the connectors to 5.5 bullet connectors instead of Deans (was planning on doing this at some point anyway). Thanks for the replies.

                        What you are running is correct and what is recommended by proboat. You are running 4s right now per what you have stated. If you use 2 4s battery on the stock setup, you would be running 8s and your esc would last a few seconds. What you are running (4s) is great for this boat and I would recommend that you prop the boat up a bit (X642, M445) to get some more speed (right around 40 MPH).

                          Thank you very much for the info. I now understand what you are talking about, and what proboat is saying in their manual. I will stick with these batteries for now, until I upgrade motor & ESC. I was looking at props already, so that's great info. So much to learn...

                            Hi,

                            You can run two 4s packs for more run time,
                            And it may run a little better with the added weight and more amps in that boat,
                            But the 4s packs need to be setups in parallel so it just 4s 14.8volts and your MAH will double for more run time.
                            And check your temps to make sure you are just running warm and have good water flow coming out.
                            And you should use 5.5 bullet for your connectors on your stock setup,
                            You will need two of these for parallel setup,http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...let-connectors
                            ? ONLY IF THEY WORK

                              Your batteries are more than sufficient..........as suggested for more speed, play with props..........doesnt it come with like a prather 215 stock?
