I have one in one of my geicos. It is a drop in as long as the esc connectors are the same.
Works pretty well for my sons boat using 642 prop.

Another option is the AQ or PB 1800 motor. These are almost as fast as the UL-1 motor but draw less current, spin a larger prop and give lower heat. It is easier to burn down a UL-1 motor in a cat than one of the 1800 motors.

I've only run it a couple of times with that motor in it and so far no heat issues. I have the strut as high as possible but take care because you can raise it high enough that the prop will hit the bracket.
Also, I run 4s2p which helps keep the heat down.

I run the AQ1800 motor with the AQ60A controller, it is bulletproof so far. Yours should be fine.

you can use the stock proboat esc no problem, as fluid says the 1800 is almost as fast and can swing a bigger prop, i have seen the 1500 proboat motor swing a 447 3 blade and runs fassssssssssssssssst, but you have to mod the prop a lot and im not sure what he did to it. But i know if i run the 2030kv motor in my gieco i have to run a M445 cut down to around 442 and runs good but just not as fast as it will with a full M445 on it, WATCH YOUR TEMPS and time your runs untill you get the right combo for your boat and setup.

I replaced my stock motor with a ul-1. Much faster but runs hot. The water temp is high now, stock motor ran much cooler. I got a ul-1 cooling jacket but when it came it had a broken o ring so I used the stock pro boat jacket and worked fine. Question, it seems a little short on UL1 motor could that be the reason for the heat. Was running a 42x55 cut down grim racer. That is as big as it can go before it hits the strut, It was screaming before I hit something in the water and mangled the prop. I am going to put a 40x52 cupped grim racer back on that worked great w stock motor. I also bought a 40x52x3 for it, anyone tried it w a UL-1 motor.
Any other ideas to keep the new motor cooler w stock water set up. Have opened up the rudder hole but that's all on the cooling. Thx.

I run the 40/52 3 blade on my UL-1 with no heat problems at all.

Thx Sirbudman, are you running it in a Miss geico or a ul-1 hull. I am using a geico hull on this one How long do you run yours, I am worried about getting it to hot if I run for more than 5 min or so? And what are your motor temps after a 5 min run? The stock motor would be cool to the touch even after a 10 min run w 8s in series. Normally I run 4s -2p for speed. Is that the same for you. What about your cooling can. Did you use the ul-1 or miss geico? I bought a can for it but was cracked when arrived so I slid it into the stock pro boat and fit perfect, except I think it is a little short. Thanks for the help and any more you have. .

I actually run a UL-1 motor in two boat. One is a UL-1 and one in a SV-27. In the UL-1 it has the gold colored jacket on it and after a 4-5 min. run it comes in at 100 degrees and the one I have in my SV has the stock cooling jacket on it and after 4-5 min. run it comes in at about 110-115. Hope this helps.
