Is the offset rudder necessary for sport boating? I am putting in the 1800 kv motor

It should be, out of the box, anyhow...

What's going on with your Impulse??

Neither of these boats are at their true potential with the stock props. If you are willing to push things, some pretty decent speeds are very doable.

I still say that some of you really need to get involved in a local racing club and go RACE! It's all find and dandy to make passes back and forth all day with a GPS, but if you REALLY want to have fun... go head-to-head, side-by-side with 5 other boats and see where that gets you! At that point... overall speed really becomes far less important and relative speed takes over. The "rush" makes up for the rest!

Nothing wrong with my impulse, I just drove a mystic last fall and really enjoyed it, but my hobby shop give me a deal on the miss g. Is is a club that races like 50 miles away, but finding info is very hard. The prop chosices I have is stock ss, grim 40x53, and grim 43x55. I am using 1800 kv pb motor. The 53x55 prop worked great on 5s but drained really fast on 4s, and almost smoke the battereis, after 2min. I thought I ran the combo ran last fall with out issue. Always been a fan of cats, my blackjack was a great boat till it was totaled.

I'm trying to get enough guys together to run some sort of racing locally here in Vancouver. It's coming along slowly.I used to go to all the Hobby Hive races in Bellingham years ago. You're right Darin,it is a good rush.

Looks like how I did it.

If I can make a suggestion... Shorten the rudder bracket to try to get the leading edge of the rudder up closer to the drive-dog. Being back where it is, it'll still be in the prop-wash.

As for mounting the IM31 hardware... It's possible, but would be easier if you replaced the entire strut bracket assembly. With mods, you could do it to what you already have there. Getting the rudder push-rod to line-up would be the challenge.

Here is a shot of my Miss Geico with the Mystic 29 hardware mounted on it, with some mods. You have to relocate the pushrod exit hole, etc., to make it work, but it's pretty sweet now that it's installed.

Notice also, that I modified and relocated the push-rod attachment on the rudder. Where it is located stock (like in your picture), puts the push-pull point way back behind the pivot point, which is not optimum and decreases the potential rudder travel. Also makes the push-rod swing through a larger arc.

I've also included a picture of a Mystic/MG Rudder that has been adapted to fit into the IM31 rudder bracket assembly. I had to machine the forward part of the rudder mounting area to get it to fit, but it was simply a matter of taking out the bits above and below the slot, then drilling new holes for the mounting bolts.

Should be all set. I know linkage is a little sideways, need to find some different spacers.

had it in the water for one run today, water was pretty choppy but it did not flip, after 3 min I pulled it of and the motor was around 90 degrees but the batteries where around 100. 2nd run, not so well, cooling line came off so the inside got wet, don't think my receiver is good anymore.

Take the case off and douse the Rx in rubbing alcohol and leave it alone for a few days.Put it back together and it will probably be fine. Then would be a good time to waterproof it.
