New MG Owner and Have a Few Questions

Hey guys, After admiring this Boat for awhile I decided to take the plonge and Buy one. I bought it over the weekend at my LHS, I paid $309 which seemed to be a decent price for the MG. I also picked up an additional 2s Lipo so I can run 4s and 5s when its ready, My packs are rated at 2s & 3s/50c/5300mah so I'm hoping these should Power the MG well for the time being. After doing some research Im still left with a few unanswered questions.

    1. Currently I have Deans on Everything which I thought were Good, But I've been seeing that is no longer the case and Everyone is now running 5.5 Bullets. Any reason why? or Is this just personal preference?

    2. I've read that it is suggested to add some foam in the Front Sponsons. Should I use a Cut up Pool Noodle or Should I use that Great Stuff Expanding Foam Spray?

    3. The factory cooling lines look okay. I have some Bigger lines laying around, Should I throw those in? or Should I stay smaller for more Pressure? Also the Extra lines I have are some I bought at a Hardware Store, Do the cooling lines have to be a Particular type?

    4. While I was at my LHS I noticed a Grim Racer Prop 42x55 that said Miss Geico right on it so I picked it up, Will this be ok on a stock setup?

    5. Lastly, I know this question has probably been beaten to death and Im sorry. What Stock replacement motor would be considered an Upgrade? Ive seen a few run UL-1's, Stiletto's, Impulse, and Mystic.

Thanks in Advance for all your Help!!!

Well lets see how much of this I can answer for you,First off, lose the Deans! You're gonna anyway, might as well do it rather than take the chance of melting them and possibly getting a short.Go to 5.5's or 6.5 and while you're at it do the motor leads as well. The reasoning here is because a boat will pull alot of amps and do it continuously unlike a car or plane.

Pool noodle,I'd go with that for now.Great stuff sucks water and may keep expanding for awhile.Pool noodle can be cut to shape to add some hull support and you can remove it if you split a seam on your first blowover. This can be repaired if you can get to it.

The cooling lines should be fine. Why go to bigger lines when all the fittings and orafices are small. This starts at the rudder. You can make them all larger at a later date.

The Grim Racer prop is quite popular but I have found they are terribly unbalanced. Not sure of that exact one as I did not purchase one.Did they have the Mystic/Stilleto prop?

As far as motors go,The 1500kv stock one is pretty darn good. The mystic/stilleto one is 1800 kv and I believe your ESC wouldn't hold up long.Especially 5s.

Hope I was of help and just ask if you need more info.I did run mine stock for awhile so played with quite a bit of stuff on it.Shawn

I still have deans on my boats ..... a lot of the 4000ma + lipos seem to come with 5.5 connectors now, but there is no consistency. I left the deans, some batteries I solder deans onto, some I run adapters.
Pool noodle vs expanding foam .... I use expanding foam ..... make it a VERY rigid structure (you could stand on it), but he noodle does give access ..... I tend to reinforce my RTR boats on the seams and bow, and then expanding foam. The mystic has a piece of styrofoam in the bow and the impulse 31 has expanding foam in the bow straight our of the box from the factory.
Cooling lines, yes the rudder and exit have small cross sections, but thin tubes also have friction along the surface between the water and the tube ...... hard to know where the weak link is ....... I'm considering cooling esc and motor separately to reduce bends and friction in the path on some of my boats, and get a larger cross section separate pickup

2x2s 30c and stock motor is what I run in my impulse and mystic and supervee (1500kv) ..... plenty fast and can all be flipped ...... once I master trimming the boat, I'II worry about bigger batteries, etc ..... no point getting a bigger engine in your car or going faster if your wheels aren't aligned and wobble. The challenge with boats is also the conditions on the lake vary from weekend to weekend. I love the look go the MG, got the mystic because it was newer.

I haven't played with props yet

The prop needs to be sharpened and balanced the reason they are shiny is I think they tumble them to polish them a little they are not intended to be run without balancing and sharpening.
Do a search in the MG forum loads of info there for you. I would only use two part marine foam in it or pool noodles. Do not buy foam from Home depot or lowes.
