Looking to purchase a Miss Geico/Mystic

    Hey guys,
I am looking to get back into RC boating. I used to run weedeater boats, and was looking into nitro outboards before seeing how far the electrics have come. I live on a lake with about 2000' of open water, and I am now pretty set on an electric.

After visiting my local hobby shop, I expected the salesman to drive me toward the Spartan, but he thought the Mystic was the best RTR on the market. He stated the Mystic and MG were idientical (although after reading these forums, that does not seem to be the case).

I found a used boat for sale locally and wanted to get the opinion of those who know. It's a Miss Geico. The asking price is $450, with no charger. It includes (copied and pasted from the ad):

    Upgraded motor - Leopard 4082
Upgraded ESC Seaking180 amp - Can be programmed to run on either 4 or 6 cells
Upgraded brass prop - Sharpened/Balanced and ready to go!
Includes 2 sets of 2 cell Lithium Polymer (Lipo) Batteries (4 each)
    2.4GHz Spektrum radio system
    Lots of spare parts.

If everything checks out, is this a fair deal? Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Is the hull in good shape? What kind of lipos? What shape are the lipos in?

The boat new rtr is about 330ish. less batts. so if it all checks out it seems like it may be a fair deal

Where are you in FL? In the Keys or tallahasse is my guess

      Welcome to OSE!
Like Tique says, if the hull is in good shape, and the lipos are okay; you should have a good deal. Don't forget that you'll need a lipo charger too.

Went to Florida State, spend a lot of time in the Keys...in Ft. Lauderdale now.

My main goal is to go as fast as possible with a reliable, somewhat cost efficient boat. It seems like this MG has some nice, safe mods to it. I will check on battery brand and age.

My local dealer said I would be into the Mystic for about $600 by the time I was done with lipos and a charger. Seems like I will be a little less than that with this setup (offering $375-400).

The stock boat run great to, I think you can get them for like $330, you can make it go pretty good with prop change. Used batteries, I stay away from them. You could be on tghe water for around $500 with all new stuff.

I would try to beat him down a bit more on price. Not sure what the extras are but if its not a motor and esc I would think $350ish would be more appropriate. Buying used batteries is sort of like buying a used engine it can be hard to tell what your getting?

I would have to agree with d.a.v.e. Say has anyone had any luck finding a bullet prop nut to fit the stock MG prop shaft? As most of us know the thread on the shaft isn't typical.

Eco, whats the diameter (in MM) I dont have a stock shaft anymore or Id measure it. reason I ask, Fightercat has set screw bullets. Maybe a flat spot could be filed in the threads and one of Bens bukllets could be attached. ben had mentioned he started doing that on a few of his threaded shafts and its working well. Just a thought.

Thanks tiqueman, I have heard about doing this but I'd rather not risc compromising the integrity of the threads. I think I may just order another O.S.E. shaft made for this boat. The shaft is supposed to be able to handle more power and the thread is a more common thread. I had one of them but on one of my first runs with my MG I (Like an ideot) didn't check all the screws particularly the ones you losten to adjust the strut and the strut came lose. This destroyed the prop shaft. I think any shaft would have had a problem at those kind of rpms with no support in the rear. Long story short I just went back to using the stock shaft that I had since it came with the boat. Going back to an O.S.E. shaft I should be able to find a tapered prop nut.

That's a better idea anyway. The stock flex is minimal at best. Mine failed stock config on the 5th run.
