Lose that chip on your shoulder bud. This rtr section has turned into a freaking joke. Do what you want. Notice there's nobody else giving advice here lately? Guess I learned the hard way with you rtr know it alls. That setup is crap. All you guys ever have to say is so what if it fries??? It's my money. Lol.
Any idea what this boat should do?

"Any idea what this boat should do?"
My response would be re-thought out. Here's my take and your setup, it may or may not blow up that we don't know, but what we do know is high rpms = the following... High amps draws/spikes, excessive wear to drive items (motor bearings, strut bushing, flex cable issues) esc and battery failure related to the amp spikes and major reliablility issues. At the end of the day it's your money and your model you are free to do whatever you may please, but most (not all) people here would steer away from those setup. I have been in this hobby for a few years now and would never plan or attempt to run that setup. A big issue is new guys see setups like this run time then discourged on why they fail or blow and end up getting out of the hobby. If your in the Charlotte area I will gladly show you how to setup boats properly.
* i run a Leopard 4074 2200kv on 4s2p with a m645 and the play time is very short and things can heat up fast. It is a rather aggresive prop, add the extra rpm's to your setup and the results won't be good.
Just my 2 cent's. If you do run it the way you want, get video. Things should be interesting!
*ecoovert - you should have my information from youtube, feel free to contact me there or a pm if you want some help setting this thing up.Last edited by Diesel6401; 09-08-2011, 05:40 PM.Comment

As some of you have asked. Here's the latest on my Miss Geico project. I threw in my 4082 2200kv. motor running it on 6s with an x645 prop. Tested it for the first time this last Saturday and it covered 620 feet in 5 seconds flat. I did a number of runs mostly at or near wot. and the temps came back at 82 degrees for the motor and 98 degrees for the esc. Forgot to check the lipo temps so I can't say anything about them. I just couldn't believe the temps or how well the boat handled. I probably could have moved the lipos back some but didn't want to risk a blow over with my new setup. I know my method of testing the speed isn't the most accurate but the average speed for that distance comes out to 84.4mph. using the figures above. I'm usually within + or -3 seconds when I count to 60 in a minute so I may have been + or -5% off on the speed. Considering it took the boat some time to accelerate I would have had to be way off to not have at least hit a top speed of 80mph. I guess I'm just too cheap to buy a gps but I'm just happy to know my pet project is able to get into the 80mph. range.
Here is a short video of the boat in action with the new setup. My speed run isn't in this video. My nephiew didn't know how to use the zoom on the camera so I'm sorry about the video quality.

That video would be mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSuLgLjTDNc. The outrunner makes a lot of torque and I could probably run a bigger prop than the one I ran in that video, on 6S. But to play it safe, I now run 4S with a 48mm prop in that motor and get way better results.
Here is a video of the same motor with an x445 on 4S. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-z18v-PFac
And here is the last outing with the boat after being prepped for white paint with a composite 48mm prop. The motor was the warmest it has ever been at 130* with no cooling at all. ESC was 110*, but it ran like a bat out of hell and will be my final setupThe bouncing the boat does now is from being on the verge of blowing over. Still running the stock rudder.
Now, as far as the 4074 motor blowing up on 6S, I don't know why people still speculate on that when plenty of my boating buddies run "high KV" motors on 6S all day long. All it takes is common sense and tuning, I.E don't over prop! Hell, I ran 6S when I had my Gen with a 2200, T180 and a 40mm prop and that's a way bigger boat.
As far as getting rid of the "wha, wha" it's been proven time over time that finding the correct CG will smooth out the boat. People usually tend to mount the batteries to the rear of the 9" the manual states, when in fact you need to mount them forward.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? Not sure..................too much diameter needed and probably cant get there, but you can obviously run it(a 4074) on 6s with a smaller prop. You went with a bigger motor though. There is a guy on here who ran 8 or 9s in a cat with i believe an 1800+/- kv motor and got near 100.......................dont know the prop. I'll see if i can find itNEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? JackBlack26, I guess I would have to agree with you from my experience. I guess I would be considered a newb as well since I've only been running boats for about 2 years. I happen to like all out speed so I also use the high kv motors on 6s as I can't seem to find props that will take me up to the speeds I'm looking to reach on 4s. I know it lowers my run times but to me it's worth it to do an 80mph run with a boat. It's fun to be able to smoke the real boats on the lake but that's just me I guess. I don't know with the props available if those kind of speeds are reachable on 4s. I do plan on trying smaller props on 6s as I'm using an x645 with my Leopard 4082 2200kv. motor. Don't know if I would gain or lose speed. All I have to do is try I guess. I also ran a 4074 2150kv. motor on 6s with an x442 with a maximum temp. of 114 degrees. That's the highest temp. I ever got on the 4074 on 6s. my 4082 so far has only reached 82 degrees but the temp. outdoors was only 62 degrees so I'm sure as it warms up outside my temps. will go up some. Both of the motors I have talked about here were ran in the same boat and using the same bushings and flex shaft... with no issues yet.
Having said that, I would consider what Diesel6401 has to say. We may find that after a year or 2 of running these setups that something ends up going wrong. It just hasn't happened to us yet. Who knows I may get tired of all out speed just to prove I can do it someday and at that time may only run on 4s. I guess running in the high 50s or even pushing 60 isn't so bad. I don't know anyone who has a real boat that can do that.Comment

The whole point is that he did mention wanting to use a high pitch prop(x645) in the o.p..............not a 40mm or x440 or whatever your buddies run on 6s. You're not even comparing the same thing................. an x645 has a total pitch of 2.832, 33% more than an x440 for example.Comment
