A few lipo and nmh questions.

I was just wondering if its ok to run with one of each at the same time? I'm only asking bc one of my lipos went bad on the 1st run... Also if anyone has any idea why this would happen? Basically i was running the boat for about 4 minutes when it stopped. Upon inspection i noticed that one of the terminals got hot and basicaly melted and came disattached from the battery. "note this was when I was using 2 lipos togeather" I resodered it and after a few more runs the other terminal started to melt and now im not gettin any responce out of the battery.. The other battery " lipo" i had in the boat was perfectly fine. Any idea how this happened? So now i have 2 good nmd and 1 good lipo thats what I ask the 1st question.

No, do not mix the two. Just don't. Chuckle. On your lipo issue there are a couple things you should know. 1. If you run the lipo's down to low you will ruin them. You need to try to leave about 20percent of the capacity in the cell. How you ask? One way is to get a handle of how much is left in the "tank" by using one of these.

It will show you how much capacitiy is left in a nice simple way. Percentage.

the second thing is your connectors are melting because you are pulling lots of amps off of the battery(this is also tough on batteries) I would suggest you move to 5.5 bullet connectors to solve the melting problem. Also, you need to check the "c" rating on the lipo's. They should be at least probably 40c or higher. The brand matters. Some are good, some are bad. Good batteries are the Turnigy brand (hobbyking). Not race quality, but good bang for the buck. Other good buys are out there as well, others will chime in.

You NEVER want to run nickel and LiPo packs together at the same time. Run the two nickel packs together.

Why did the one LiPo pack go bad? Without inspecting the pack it is tough to tell, but quality control, particularly with cheap Chinese cells, means that problems like this do crop up from time to time. If you can afford higher quality cells you get what you pay for. If you have to stick with cheap cells, then occasionally you'll have problems.

The batteries were not cheap. I got them from the guy on ebay. 5000mah 45c, 2 batteries for $160. Its not my wire connectors that melted. On these batteries there are holes for + - and balance. Prongs from the wire connector push into the battery itsself. Basically the battery case melted at the prong holders and they came lose from the case. The other battery like i said was perfectly fine. Im tried contacting the seller to see if I can get a refund, I dont beleive it was anything I did wrong. Still waiting for him to answer..My esc is programed to lipo but also works with nmh. I figured I could just run 1 nmh and 1 lipo if it was programmed to lipo and still be safe but i figured I ask first..
