    Reversed cooling hookup?

On another forum, someone had noticed another member had reversed the cooling hookup to the motor. What problem can this present? Would it not flow properly or cool properly?

Cooling water should enter the cooling jacket at the lowest point and exit at the highest point. Otherwise the jacket does not stay full of water and cooling is compromised. Few jackets have the water inlets in the right place, just be sure to position the highest one at the top of the motor rather than rotated around to a lower position. Otherwise there is a trapped air packet which may never fill with water.

Below is about the worst possible arrangement for efficient cooling. The entire top half of the motor may get no cooling water at all, and much of the cool water just flows right back out of the jacket. Move the exit to one of the top holes.

This is much better, at least the jacket is full of water. An improvement would be a water inlet near the bottom of the jacket - but this is often difficult to do and still run a water line.
