    MG ESC Dead on 5s

I finally got the MG set for running on 5s and did the rudder stand-off mod and got her to the pond. She flew like a bat out of hell for a bout 4 full out runs then she died. After about 20 min of fishing I got her back in and the ESC temp was still 160F.

Anyone know the warranty on these things? Or am I better off looking for a beefier esc? Obviously the latter would be better for the boat, but if I can get it replaced I can throw it on ebay to help pay for a better one.

And I don't think the warranty will cover modifications... you most likely blew the esc. You should look into a better one (120a) if youre going to run 5s and an external battery pack

Interesting... what prop were you using? I don't think anyone has reported that high of a temperature running 5s

And how did it run (what were the water conditions like)? Did you notice the boat stressed?

                Used a x642 prop.
Run time was probably less than 2 minutes.
                Used a 2s 5250mah and a 3s 5250mah 60c MaxAmps Lipos
Only connectors in the boat changed where the batter connectors and they were traxxas

The boat ran great, i was getting used to the speed on 4s and this was definitely a huge improvement. The water was smooth as glass.

I think you just answered your question. You should also have change the 3 sets of connectors that connect to motor and esc with at least 5.5mm bullet. The stock 3.5mm are just to small and tend to heat and de-solder which leads to issues and possible failures. All of this is JMO of course, but that is why I asked the question. I ran 5s all day same prop no issues temps not a problem with that motor/esc combo. I have switched to a different PB motor though. I run the Stileto 1800kv motor with the MG esc which is only 45amps. The stileto comes with a 60amp esc. So far no issues, but if a failure occurs it's 100% my fault for pushing the limits of the esc. I do have telemetry setup on my boat so I get a live reading of esc temps on my radio, I also have the radios alarm set to 135F if the temp reachs that point an alarm goes telling me to stop.

I figured it had to be something I didn't do right. This is my first boat. Wheres the best place to order things like the bullets? Also are the traxxas connectors any good for the batteries?

I haven't ran into any issues yet Rum on 5s with that esc and the bec disabled and connectors switched. If a failure occurs its all the users risk and not Proboats. I don't know if you will be able to get warrenty for that, even though the esc is rated for 21V operating outside of the manuals suggest setup is all the users risk!

I use 5.5 on everything. You can pick those up here at OSE. If HH/PB doesn't warrenty the ESC grab yourself a 120amp or if you want to run a little higher voltage on the stock motor grab a seaking 80HV then you can run 5s and even 6s on the stock motor. That esc is only rated for a min of 5s so 4s won't work. If you get a 120lv like a swordfish or seaking 120 don't run 6s stick to 4s and 5s.
