What are the things I should look at upgrading?

All rtr rc vehicles have places that should be improved for best results.
In my Blackjack 29 v3 besides the the shaft and coupler which I all ready know about what should I look at long term.
This will most likely be a 4s powered boat that will see use in ponds and small lakes in my area so I would like to optimize it for that.

That boat in stock form will do fine on 4S. The couple is the biggest problem, and you've already addressed that. Pick yourself up a balanced and sharpened x642 prop for 4S running.

A Dynamite 3831 motor and an ABC 1815 from Dasboata puts you at 54mph on 4s (with good temps) if you want to get rid of that heat attracting 3910 stock motor. Strap in (2) 3s packs and here comes 75+mph with an ABC 1716 and the 3831 (if your boat is set up decent).

Do the plastic servo horns generally hold up ok? That's usually one of the first things I change on my cars.

Water don't abuse them like dirt and asphalt does, so very little issues with the servo horns. Aluminum is always better though.

So I got to thinking, dangerous as that usually is for me, I have a 36" fiberglass Lobster boat that I have been slowly working on for about the last 20 years that will soon need a motor and esc. Would the motor and esc that comes stock in the Blackjack with a suitable reduction gear and a water pump for cooling work in a somewhat heavy displacement hull without toasting it self? If so I am thinking about maybe a Seaking 180A v3 esc and the above mentioned 3831 motor for the Blackjack. Would this be a reliable and reasonably efficient setup on 4s and occasional 6s use?
