    Exploding Capacitor

The first capacitor that I blew up was on my Hydra 240 I did however manage to make it pass at 48.3 mph. I then of course had to restore my boat back to stock I was running it today and blew up another capacitor on the stock ESC. I did manage to pass at 39.7 mph which I would be happy with had I not exploded another capacitor. As the picture shows I am physically blowing the outer case off of the capacitor and the internals are smeared inside my boat hull. I did check the temperatures on the ESC it was 95°F as well as the motor was around the same temperature, so I don't think it's a temperature issue. Someone had told me that the reason the capacitor blows is because the batteries unable to supply adequate current, I am running Maxx amps 8400 milliamp 35C 7.4 v x 2 I should not have a battery supply problem. I can tell I'm going to get good at changing capacitors on my Hydra 240. Any help would greatly be appreciated Krusty[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Try shortening the ESC and/or battery leads. Capacitors will explode if there is too much ripple current. Does your driveline spin freely?

I will shorten the batt. leads, this will help with the ripple curent? I spun the drive line by hand and it is smooth.

As more current flows thru a resistance, in this case, wire. The higher the voltage drop. Capacitors try to fill this voltage drop. Especially under heavy loads.
By the way, Nice paint job.

Thanks for the tip and the compliment on the paint had it done this year. On my mod set up with the hydra 240 I will cut 3" off the batt leds and I can shorten the leads to the motor by 2" and see what happens. I don't think I can get the stock esc apart to replace the capacitor but the hydra will be easy. Thanks again krusty
