Help with removing BL26 Drive Shaft

Need some help/advice. I'm trying to lubricate my BL26 drive shaft for 1st time. I've removed the setscrew in front of the rudder that connects the joint to the drive shaft. But now I can't seem to get the propeller drive (i think that is what it is called) out of the rudder assembly, i've tried turning it and pulling and tugging on it as hard as I can but, the thing won't budge.

Is this just supposed to pull out our am i supposed to do something else here? The proboat instructions aren't too clear and this is the first time i'm doing this, so I don't want to break anything.

any help would be great. Trying to get the boat out for the first time this year and this has been really bedeviling me the past few days.

you're on the right track. Remove the set screw for the prop shaft to the u joint and pull it out. Shift the outdrive to the side and use 2 10mm wrenches and loosen the coupler on the motor and pull the flex shaft out. As far as greasing goes, I use marine grease but it is thick and I remember somebody saying to also dab some 3 in 1 oil also which sounds good but have not tried it yet

What did you over tighten? The coupler will be fine when snug, if you fart, it's too tight!

I have noticed that when you screw the prop nut down it will move the drive dog forward. The prop nut has plastic inside and I tighten mine until there is zero wiggle without moving the drive dog forward. Snug is what you want, not real tight. The prop nut will stay where ever you put it as it is a lock nut but do not loose it as I have been to 2 hardware stores trying to find a stainless steel locknut that is for a 1/8 inch shaft. Not sure if this helped

Does it matter if you tighten the setscrew first or the prop nut?

I would have to say I wouldn't over tighten the prop if you do you risk squeeze the drive line and that is very bad tighten the set screws as tight as you can I have allready sunk a u joint and prop not fun

set screw first and tight and make sure it hits the flat part on the shaft and then tighten the prop nut till no prop wobble is felt and then never touch it again, it is now one unit. Remove it as a whole to grease flex shaft. Sorry as I could not help from replying.

mtk - if that question was directed to me, by "motor coupler" i'm assuming you mean the collet nut? If so, yes I did. As of now, I still haven't been able to pull the prop shaft out even after removing the set screw. I've pulled and tried to use pliers to remove it (after removing the actual prop). But still the thing won't budge. Could my props shaft simply be stuck due to rust or something in there?

i am at the point where i'm about to give up and bring it into a hobby shop (though the nearest one is quite a bit away)

Here are the best pics I could take. there seems to be some rusting. i've put on a bit of oil in there hoping to loosen everything but hasn't really helped.

Ok. If the set screw is removed, pull the propeller shaft out the back. then move the rudder to one side. loosen the nut on the motor coupler. Pull the flex shaft out. You may have to use a rag and some pliers on both the location for the set screw and the drive dog. Twist back and forth in opposite directions. It should loosen up. Then you may be able to pull the shaft out.
