After removing the battery trays how do you.....

    Hi people,

After removing the battery trays how do you keep the batteries off the floor of the boat? I'm going to mount them by epoxying hooks to the floor and use elastic bands to hold them down.

I want mine slightly off the floor just incase I get any water in the boat, I don't wanna fry $80 batteries.

I currently have the batteries tightly wrapped in electircal tape so they should be water resistant but I don't want to run the risk.

    Thanks,
    Jonny

Are these lipo batteries? In any case, many of us use a balloon to go around the batteries. Some go as far as to zip tie the end where the wires come out and put some silicon in the opening to fill the air gaps.

As far as batter placement, most use velcro and in the case of the balloon technique, find some longer pieces of velcro, such as those to wrap cords, and wrap around the batteries over the balloon. This makes a velcro surface available to affix to the velcro in the hull. Do yourself a favor though, use the rough part of the velcro on the boat bottom where you're going to place the batteries. This helps to avoid water soaking into the soft velcro and creating mold or mildew.

    Hope this helps.

I used 1/8 inch mahogany door skin but some bass wood from the hobby shop should work or paint stir stick as they are the correct width and are free. the outside of the sponson is higher than the inside so I used liquid nails to raise the inside to level leaving a gap for the water to flow underneath. Once dry I brushed it all with resin, stuck on some velcro and a done deal

I just measured mine and they are 1 3/8 wide made out of door skin. Not many people have this laying around as it comes in a 36"x72" sheet. If you want, I will rip you a couple pieces that will fit in a long envelope and mail them to you. PM me if you are interested and I can pray them with varathane if you want, that would be a 3 day process but I will do it for free. They need to be sealed as it is ply
