    High or Low timing?

    Hi guys,

My Proboat progamming card for my Blackjack arrived today and I don't know what to set the motor timing too.

My blackjack is completely stock apart from trimmed and angled turn fins. I'm going to run 2 7.4v 5000mah 25c Lipo batteries in it.

I've set the programming card to

    Lipo Battery
High Voltage cutoff (running lipo cells to 2.7v doesn't sound a good idea to me)
    Slow Down Cut-Off type
    Brake Off
    Linear Throttle curve

    Thanks for any advice given,

    Jonny

I use the high timing setting in all my boats... No issues so far. It's actually recommended in the ProBoat literature for 6-pole motors...

Wow! Just ran it for the first time on Lipos and it is so much faster than on my Nimhs! I knew it would be faster but this much? Wow! Only have it on low timing at the moment but will crack it up to high when I get my new prop/hardware :)

Got an Octura X642 balanced and sharpened prop on the way from Egneg, I've also got some Fulllers hardware on the way too!

high cutoff at 3.0volts is still too low. You should be stopping at about 3.4volts.

I stuck my batteries on my Battery Doctor when I got home after a run and the packs read 6.3 and 6.5 so each cell should be around 3.2 which is fine. The instruction leaflet that came with the batteries said to make sure they didn't go below 6v.

that seems to be the accepted number for several manufacturers for some reason, but it's wrong. At 3volts, you discarged more than the recommended 80% of the pack, and although you will not see any difference right away, long term, your batteries will sustain damage. On rcgroups, there's a guy who has worked with lipos for a long time, testing their limits and such. If you keep the discharge to 80% or below, then your packs will have a long and happy life.

You mentioned your packs are 5000mah. So for the 80%, when you stick it on the charger, it should take 4000mah charge. Above that means you went above the 80%. I'm sure guys will tell you they run them down all the time with no negative impact. But this guy has done significant testing to prove otherwise.

Planning on using my new lipos today, Is the following chart correct for the programming card?

                          Programmer NiMH Lipo

                          Batt Nimh Lipo
                          cutoff voltage Low High
                          Cutoff type Idle Idle
                          Brake Off Off
                          Timing Low High
                          Throttle Linear Linear

Well, That did not work as I typed it, there was spaces between each entry. The settings for NiMH are what I'm currently using and the settings for Lipo are what I think is correct, It came out a little confusing, Thanks
