    Cracked Hull :-(

    Hey guys,

I cracked my hull open pretty good on the right hand front/tip and the front bow.

My radio went lost signal and the built in failsafe automatically hit the "brakes" but instead it went flat out and the boat hit the side of our pond and jumped out over the top into the road. Heres the pond I'm running in http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3438/...3626795589.jpg It also ripped a hole open in the top of the cockpits so I just cut those out, just have the two pilots!

The problem was I had to reverse the servo on my radio as brake was accelerate, when I reversed it I forgot to reset the failsafe, as it had previously been set for my buggy.

Its like a thin long crack along the point of the sponson and very front of the bow. I was kinda angry with the boat so I just threw it back in the water and carried on til the batteries where flat. The boat didn't let in anywater from the crack but I want to get it fixed. I've had nothing but bad luck so far with this boat, first time out I burnt out a $100 servo from it letting in to much water, 2nd time out and this happens! The only positive I got from today was the boat stayed dry inside.

How easily are these splits repaired? My girlfriends dad has kindly offered to do it for me as he has fibreglassed before, where as I haven't.

Can you post some pictures? It is pretty hard to advise you properly without seeing the extent of the damage.

Here are the pics as promised, my girlfriends dad is gonna have a crack at it this weekend.

Also there are some chips in the gel coat, should I just put resin/epoxy over them?

        Thanks for any advice given!

Wow,, thats a ton of damage. I dont know if it was the stock radio you were using, but I had mine take off too when I was running the stock radio. I got lucky and no damage. Pro Boat really needs to upgrade there radio so it doesn't take off when you loose signal..

i think that you could probobly put epoxy in the crack and put a clamp on it to hold it while it drys and it should work
if it ain't broke you ain't trying hard enough.
if at first you don't sucsed maby failure is you thing.

another option is to clamp it so it's nice and tight, and pour a small amount of fiberglass resin into the boat, set it on the corner so the resin flows into the crack from the inside, and it will bond to the fiberglass to creat a nice chamfer seam. Keep doing that will small amounts of resin until you have a nice chamfer all around the cracked area. hope you understand what I'm talking about.

Oh yah, and if you use resin, be sure to pull the styrofoam out, as resin really like to dissolve foam.

I got the boat back yesterday after its repair job. It doesnt look as bad as I thought it would, really tidy job I think! It doesn't look pretty by any stretch of the imagination but it will keep water out and keep it strong :)

I'll hopefully get a pic up of it later.

I would strip everything out of that hull and get a better hull. not another black jack.
