BJ 26 turning. Speed, turn fins, etc.

I took the BJ 26bl out for it's first run today. It's box stock and runs 4600 NI-MH batteries. I now know that the blackjack can not turn at full tilt in stock configuration, with the dual rate turned to max. I thought the turn fins were supposed to help it turn at high speeds, not flip the second you start turning? Is my info wrong or is my setup wrong?

I am having the same problem with my BJ26. I am running 8.4v Venom 4200ma, Octura X642 prop and Timing set to high. Any info on why the boat lifts the left side of cat when turning left.

The boats weight gets distributed to the right side when taking a left turn, and on cats like ours the sides dig further into the water. Similar to a car. The car will dig it's tires into the ground and the suspention compresses. Take the corner in a car fast enough and the tire break loose and slide. On a boat though if you take the corner too fast the boat will catch too much water creating too much drag and flip.

My question though was supposed to be geared more towards what turn fins are supposed to really do. I'm pretty sure they are there to help the boat in fast corners to keep the boat from sliding, but how fast can a boat take a corner with fins without flipping?

Last night I remove my radio box and Lightened my BJ up alittle and removed the turn fins. With my Octura x642 and 8.4v venom 4200's and timing set on high my BJ was way faster than it needs to be with stock steerable outdrive. Got to go swimming today...lol. I have to get Fullers offshore hardware kit with inline rudder setup. Dont remove turn fins untill you have a new outdrive.

Keep your Blackjack from flipping by turning down the D/R until you can take the corner at full speed. That way you won't need to go swimming next time, or worry how far you can turn the wheel before it flips. Unfortunatly if you want to go quickly around a small circle you won't be able too as the rudder won't turn as much.

I just recieved the Grim Racer 40x52/3 prop in the mail. I ran the boat today against the SV27 and found that around the corners I could keep up to her but in the straight the SV27 would start pulling. I'll be out at Humber Bay park to try out the new prop I just got. Maybe I'll be able to keep up with it this time. lol

I'm very new to this and I found your post interesting as I have both boats pretty much stock. My Blackjack w/ a Grimracer 40x53 will smoke my SV27 w/ the same prop on the straights. I'm running nimh 7c 4600's in both. My BJ can handle rough water much better; the SV is a handful!

sven I'm sure you have seen the posts about raising and angling the turn fins. I have not done that yet but I will as it makes a lot of sense. The stock boat leans to the outside on corners and I think this may help. Brian

The stock configuration runs well straight but is very poor in the corners and is quite easy to flip. I followed the directions of Propnut43 and others - Change out the hardware to Fuller's, move the batteries farther back and lower in the hull, cut down the turn fins and angled them and went with an x642.

Now I can turn and full speed - just not really tight. If I try and turn too tight, the rear usually "jumps" a bit and makes a 90 degree turn. If it is choppy or you gun it and try and turn she'll still flip. The hull is just too narrow to do much about that.

                  Good luck.
