    Best motor upgrade...

    Hi fellas,

Interested in your opinion on a good motor upgrade to the BJ motor? This is to run with a Hydra 120 and 4S 5000mAh 30C. Prop is currently stock but (as soon as Steve gets some more) will be going for a good ole x642.

    Thanks!

Are you planning on changing the hardware or the stuffing tube?

Good question. I should probably clarify that I am asking this question because I am upgrading from a BJ motor but it is not for a BJ hull. This is for my Phantom Offshore Cat. It uses a .187 flex shaft and stuffing tube and a rudder similar to the speed master mini.

I see, so the specs for this boat are as follows:

        Length: 32.5"
        Beam: 10"
        Weight: 3.5 lbs

        Is that correct?

Here's some pictures of the little guy...

It goes hard out - I don't have a GPS yet so not sure how fast. Just thinking of next stages...if I DID upgrade the motor, which one to use. I like the look of the NEU motors but don't know which one to go for.

Oh OK, I must have been looking at something different. What speeds are you planning on going? 40-45 mph? 30-40 mph?

Are you using this hull for sport boating or do you plan to race it? And if you plan to race it, what format are you planning on: IE. oval, straight-away, etc.?

Final, do you have any budget constraints or alternatively, would you like to know various price ranges from low to mid to high cost?

With this information, I'm sure that several members here can provide some good suggestions.

Pictures are a great help. Sorry I was typing when you made your last post.

My first suggestion for upgrading your boat: Lots and lots of flotation! You may not flip now, but with a new motor, you may very well in the future. Also put some flotation on the hatch and tape it down! :)

It's a good looking cat for sure though

Thanks Meniscus. I want to use it for RH oval racing with my friends - just friendly stuff but obviously I want to kick their ass if I can! (One of them has the new UL-1 and keeps braggin on and on, I would especially like to give him a good hiding!)

Budget - don't want to go too crazy on this hull I will save my $$$ for my next "proper" project once I have learnt more from this boat.

You could try the new aquacraft motor or an 8xl Feigao.
Anything else on 4s in that size boat might be to much for it..

Thanks Heath. What would I expect to happen if I went for a Neu engine or similar? Flipping, prop standing or would she just break up on me

you'll struggle to keep the boat on the water and you'll end up getting the *!***!***!***!**s having to rescue it all the time.. Our club runs a stock class using pro boat or AQ motors in 26" hulls and they run in the low to mid 40's..

I run a Feigao 8xl in a 32" cat on 4s with an X642 prop. Top speed so far is 52mph if that's any help.
