This is what I was thinking of. Straight driveline but you can still angle the prop up a small degree or two.

hmmmm i can see it tomoz boat in the water, boat out the water,
boat in the water, boat out the water.
Still we all aim to get the best out of what we have and strive for speed
well thats my goal anyway lol i still dont have a ball park figure of the sort of speed i should be able to acheive with my set up but would be well happy to hit the top 40's and real happy to hit 50
but we will seeMaxamusComment

so i got to the pond today not much ice about and it was looking good i set everything up zero'd the gps and let it blast ! an increase on speed managed a 38.1 mph still room for improvement i feel as i achived 40 mph with stock motor and ESC i can see me loosing the turn fins very soon they say a poss 3mph increase hmmm still not the speed iam looking for
ah well more fine adjustments

how did the hydra turn out ???MaxamusComment

Not bad speed. without seeing how it is riding it is hard to see what more you can do. usually movning the CG back gets the boat faster yet on the edge.
Is nothing getting hot? Seems like a pretty good sized prop for the 2300 KV motor. If oyu are heating it up in a couple minutes then you may be trying to pull too much...and losing rpm.Comment

Bad day at the pond. Let me say that the Hydra was working great. Today the boat was fast, probably 36-38.
It was windy and choppy from other Nitros flying around. I was doing good until I hit a small wake at full speed. Blew over and lost the hatch.
So I launch the rescue boat, and it dies right next to the Blackjack.
Needless to say, the electronics got submerged for 20 minutes or so while I tried to fish it out with a line. No joy... had to wait for the wind to blow it to shore.
Hydra looks toasted.
RX fried.
lipos: 1 died, 1 might have survived.
Motor, who knows...
I really did not expect a blow over at this speed. Learned a few valuable lessons today, the hard way.Boats:

Were you runing it too lose with the water conditions? That sucks, man. Did you have the hatch taped and all?
Sorry to hear your loss. Rougher water is no time to be doing speed trials.
Your RX may be fine if you take it apart and dry it out good.Comment

Not sure if was too loose or just a bad combo of wake, speed and wind.
The RX is definitely toast.
As for hatch tape, I was thinking to myself "I am only running one run... I know how this handles since I ran last week... I can skip the tape this one time..."
ALWAYS USE HATCH TAPE!Boats:

your ESC might dry out and work ?? only you will know the extent of the damage and that is one of the reasons i chose to go with ETTI in my choice of speed controller after a lot of reading i weighed up the pro's and con's between the 2 and what swayed it for me was the reports i had read about etti's being totaly submerged for a week then being recovered and still able to work !! i have had aero esc's from CC and cant fault there proformance and especialy the pc interface but when playing with water we all know
water and electricity DONT MIX !!
you will come back from your loss better and faster !!

Any updates on your adjustments maxamus?
Quick note on my bad day... Hydra fried, rx fried, 2 lipos fried...
Hydra is on its way to CC for repair. This will force me to upgrade to a 2.4Ghz radio, and 2 new packs.
OUCH!Boats:

Maxamus that combo you have should get you up over 50 mph. I had a slightly different hardware setup, but that shouldn't matter that much. I ran the ammo 2300 with a hydra 120 and 12 trinity nimh 4500's. I ran the same 642 prop that you have, but I had mine detounged. The boat with that setup ran just shy of 52 mph. I only ran lipos in it once and saw just over 53 with the exact same setup. just keep in mind that when you start running much over 45 the boat wants to blow off pretty easy, atleast with the extremely loose setup I had. I always just used clear electrical tape on my blackjack, it works good enough. When you get the boat back up and running, cut the tongue off your prop, and then start tweaking the strut height and angle.Comment

thats the sort of speed iam looking for although i have no idea how to de-tongue or balance a prop will have to see if i can get one form lhs i also have a x645 hmmmm think i will try that next but as you say its just test and adjust test and adjust will keep you posted
ps did you remove the turn fins ???????MaxamusComment

I tried without the turn fins and didn't like it. I ended up cutting them down 1" and making sure they were nice and sharp.
Here is a pic of how mine ran. It was pretty much on the edge.
If you look around on this site, you can find the info you need on how to balance, sharpen, and modify your props. If you have not atleast done a s&b to your props, you are loosing a ton right there.Attached FilesComment

Obrien thanks
All my props are S&B just not de-tongued turn fins have been shortened/sharpened and angled in so no probs there, your picture is as you say on the edge if you take a look at my video you will see how i was running before the ESC and Motor change which makes me think its just fine adjustments needed you will get a look of how the boat was riding
might invest in another good set of lipo's it all helps lol

your boat has a better attitude for all around running than my boat did in that pic. You will find that as your boat starts getting in the upper 40's and over 50 it will get very sensitive to weight placement, and ofcourse wind and water conditions.Comment
