Recently bought my first boat being a black jack. I have a few questions. I have set it up and and am running lipos. Everything else is stock. What are the advantages and disadvantages of removing the fins from the boat? Also on the rudder where the steering arm attached with the one screw the screw will not tighten and the arm moves without moving the rudder. Any fix for that? Thank you

you need the programing card to switch the esc over to lipos, I would assume you are running aftermarket hardware? -
If hardware is stock, which by your tiller arm comment Im guessing it is, removing the fins may result in bad things. If you have aftermarket upgraded hardware, I found removing them fixes a lot of its handling problems but causes a few others.
As for the arm, theres a screw, and thers a molded peg under the middle of that arm that goes into the top of the drive. That peg on yours is broken. A good fix is to remove that screw and remove the arm. take a pick and pry out the broken peg. Then drill a hole accordingly thru the tiller arm. You will see where the peg broke off, drill there, and put another screw thru it.
Theres a fantastic but very long thread about Bj handling. Id advise reading it. Theres tons and tons you can learn about this boat on here.
Two of the best things you could do for it is get this
and this
(this has to be sharpened and balanced)

Yes, you will need to shorten the stuffing tube a little bit and re-drill some holes in the back of the boat.Comment

screen will give you your information as to whats going on w/ your cells. ie. voltage of each, amount of mah put back in etc. Id go with some type of info indication. Its nice to know whats going on in the shrinkwrap.

Change everything to 5.5 bullets. I would even change the motor/ esc leads to at least 4mm, or you could even put 5.5 on those. PB solder is not that great. Theres a possibility one of the leads may come undone. If that happens, theres is also a possibility you can fry an esc... Ask me how I know.

Dont worry about sealing them. They are fine as is. tape up your hatch as recommended and be done with it.

They are more delicate than our old nicd and nimh. With improper use, yes they can catch fire. Go to youtube, type in "lipo fire" nimh and nicd wont flame out like a lipo will. Just be safe with them and you will be fine.

I have no idea what motor your talking about???? I never said anything about replacing the motor in it. The factory motor is fantastic. The bullets on the motor wires should be replaced w/ larger, 4mm or even 5.5s. Thats all I said about the motor... isnt it?Comment
