    Esc ?

What do you folks think about the swordfish 120 esc from ose,
and also what about the cc hydra 120.
I can cet the hydra 120 at my lhs at about the same price as ose, but the swordfish is way less $$.
I don't race but want all ths speed I can muster.
in time I will be running 6s but for now only 4s.
also what size motor by feigao is good for the BJ running 4-6s with the above esc.
i'm just about done painting the BJ and will be in the assy stage soon, I am anxious to see how it will run with the dual in hull cooling and in hull turn fins.
will post some pictures when I can figure out to get them on here in picture form, not just jpeg letters and such.

I have a aquastar which is the same esc made by hifei. I have had 2 of them and sometimes the throttle calibrate sucks but once you get it setup right it works great, for the money they are great, just make sure you get a usb programmer or a programming box. Why switch to a feigao? With a esc change and swap those cheap 3.5mm bullets on the motor over to 5.5mm and the stock motor will run 4s-6s.

If you really want to change the motor I would go with a leopard over the Feigao, the 1774kv would work for 4s-6s

The leopard are far better than the Feigao's, and for only a only like $20 more. You can't get to crazy with the RPM's if you want to run 4s-6s. For that voltage range you will need around 1800kv motor. I think the 1774kv Leopard is a perfect fit for what your asking. Anything higher than 1800kv and your rpm on 6s would be too high.

        Unloaded Rpm for the 1774kv
        4s (sport) - 26,255
        5s (fun) - 32, 819
        6s (saw) - 39,382

*I am in the process of finishing a skunkwork 29" cat and that is the motor I chose with a seaking 120amp esc.

Thank you all for your input, I think i'll go with the swordfish 120 and the 1774
          leopard.

I'm running a stock 1500KV motor currently with a 90A Seaking V2 on 4S with stock prop....I'm also curious as to what would allow me to run 6S if I was feeling courageous LOL

Would a 120A Seaking be able to run 6s on the stock motor with stock prop? Or would a 180A Seaking be a better choice?

Incidentally I've posted a WTB in the swap shop but no one's biting LOL...Seakings/Turnigys must be good ESCs

Your 90 amp seaking will support 6s it is rated for 2-6, aslong as you operate in the specs of the esc you are fine. The seaking 180 is rated at the same voltage as your 90amp esc still 2-6s. The stock motor is rated for a max of 22.2v so you are also fine on 6s for that and with the stock prop you won't be pulling crazy amps the 90amps is plenty, I would change my prop though to a metal one, a x642 works great. Under load plastic props tend to flex, and suppling that many rpms with the plastic prop it will eventually fail. You should make sure that you are using at a minium 5.5mm bullet connectors on the motor to esc connectors and using at least 5.5mm or ec5 (DO NOT USE DEANS) connectors on the battery side of the esc as well, also disconnect the bec in the esc and use a seperate rx battery.

Well at the moment...I only have Graupner CF props 40mm-47mm...I probably won't be getting into metal props until next year. So I guess my current setup should be ok with 6S then right?

And I should only go with a 180A Seaking if I want to experiment with different props?

Yup your set-up can handle 6s. Nope you don't need the 180 at all with the stock motor. On 5 & 6s a CF42 would be great, on 4s a CF45 would be great. I assume 40mm-47mm mean you have those in between, correct?

Good choice sir. Just make sure you get the programming card or usb card with that esc. Makes life easier and they don't recommend throttle "beep" method programming.

Yes, that's correct. Not really looking to break the sound barrier....so before next weekend, this will be my 2 optional setups

If you have a 2s & 3s lipo of the same mah and "c" rating , same brand helps as well try 5s. I bet 5s on a CF42 would be a nice setup! I run 5s on my MG which is the same stock bj esc and motor and I love it. Click the MG video in my signature and you can see the stock power on 4s and 5s.

Try it with the stock BJ mount first it might work out great.

I am going to use a vac-u-pickle mount part number P104 $17.00, which should work with the water jacket I ordered from here. Steve sells a leopard mount here at OSE. I am not sure if the jacket he sells will fit within the mount. You may have to ask him that question. I had the vac-u-pickle mount that I planned on using in my genesis and never did so I will use it in my skunk cat.

*The mount you listed the bracket on the back is only good for 36mm motors, the one i listed has the bracket for 40mm motors which is what you would need.

Change in plans, I'm still going to order the swordfish 120 and a bunch of 5.5 bullet connectors for now and order a pair of flightmax 3s1p 5000mah 40c batterys so I can run 6s.
will the bec in the swordfish 120 handle it?
