if you are running nimh packs, that's most likely your issue. Hitting low voltage cutoff. You need a programming card and program the LVC to low.

As lipo power said, we need details.....

      stock electronics or modified?
      battery type, capacity, c rating

Answers to those 2 will allow us to answer you correctly.

sorry guys, it was a stock setup, besides receiver.. the stock one got fried i guess, thats what the local hobby shop said.. i was running 2000 nimh? batteries. cheap ones at like 20 bucks a pop.. 7.2v

well today i went back into the hobby shop i bought the boat.. they said they sold there last programmer card, but he said its the batteries not being strong enough.. so he sold me some lipos, 3s 11.4v? so he said i didnt need the card for the lipos that the reciever reads that it has lipos.. i spent 200 bucks with the charger and all.

so i took the boat out and all was fine.. untill 5 minutes into the cruise its stops and smoke starts pooring out of the top.. well the boat is 100 yards in the middle of the lake, so i grab my surf board and start swimming. open the hatch and one of the lipos exploded and was on fire! it charred the inside of my hull and completly melted the deans connectors.. also melted the speed controller..

i hate this boat!!! has nothing but problems. I havent had any fun with it, and it breaks every time it goes out... and im not trashing it or anything like that. i try and take care of it..

        sorry about the novel

First of all. The stock Esc is only rated for 21volts MAX, you were running over 22.2 volts. Lipos carry way more power then Nimh. From what you said your LHS guy is clueless to boats and or batteries. Also they ESC is capable of running lipos. ONLY IF THE PROGRAMMER HAS BEEN PURCHASED in order to change the Low voltage cutoff setting so it dont run the lipos completely dead. You have a good boat hull and motor. Look into another esc ANd Direct all your questions here leave the hobby shop guy alone we can help more then he can. he might be able to get cheaper parts, but does he own boats that run in the 60's? Nah But OSE people DO! Hope you could of had better results you would of had a blast! FYI i run 5s a single 11.1v and a 7.2v lipos in series making it 18.5v and it SCREAMS stock.

Good luck with that. There not cheap by no means, but they are fun. If i may suggest i would get another ESC (something rated for up to 6s) a few drive parts (new running hardware) remove the battery trays to lower the center of gravity (less flipping) and a slightly smaller prop (more rpm). Looking at about another 2 to 300 bucks IMHO its well worth it. Imagine something you can step on and break can outrun something you can stand in sit down and ride on. with ease lol

Please don't take this the wrong way. But the boat you have is a great boat. It's the user's responsibility to be educated on the boat. You were so eager to get the thing running that you didn't take a few minutes to search on here for all your answers. All the problems you had, have been covered on here.

The guy at the LHS totally screwed you over. I would go back there and raise as much crap as you can. If there are people in the store, make it a point to show how he misled you, and as a result your boat nearly burned to the ground, well, water, lol. Maybe he'll loose a few customers in the process.

So like said, don't give up. It's not cheap, we all know this, you just gotta make sure you are educated on it. Same with lipos, if you are gonna use em, make sure you understand everything about them.

                cheers.

                  11.1 + 7.2 = 18.5???

                    Yhah, what everyone else said....

He should have sold you 2S lipos.....

You should have never run the boat without reprogramming the ESC......

What probably happened is that the lipo went under voltage, but since the ESC was not aware you were running lipos it kept demanding full current from the battery which quickly destroys them, as you saw.

Very unfortunate, hope you have some luck with the store you bought all this stuff at......

                    Good luck.

sorry total is 7.2=8.4v peak charge and 11.1 gives 18.5 but all actuality it 8.4 and 12.6 = 21 volts on the dot wierd how these things work lol 5s is 18.5, but 2s and 3s equal 21 but still 5s

they never talk peak tho, and you are still wrong. lol. 8.4peak +11.1=19.5, not 18.5

                        What you ment to put was 11.1 + 7.4 = 18.5, not 7.2. 7.2 is nimh, lipo is 7.4

Oh man... That sucks.... Too bad you did not wait for us to help you with your boat.
Black jack is one of the best boats out there, for real man.... it runs on stock electronics and hardware superfuntastic when you put 2 x 7.4 lipos....... Well now you can post some parts for sale here at the OSE....
