    New Battery Mix

Okay seriously confused on how people are running odd numbered cells. For example ive read on here a few places where people mix a 7.4v and a 11.1 or a 2s and a 3s and getting 5s or what almost 19volts? I asked at a LHS and the guy told me its not good to run different volt batts at any time. Is there any truth to that because i dont want to run 6s its too much for my esc in such a small boat, but 5s if possible would be awesome!

Well I never heard of 2.5s cells so just add weight to the 2s side, running in series
adds voltage, just don't exceed the max voltage of the esc.
you should run the same mah packs though.

In series it is normal to do but don't run different nubers of cell packs in parellel or you might get a lithium fire!

I Still not sure of what your saying. see what i want to do is take a 7.4v and a 11.1v with the same discharge rate and same burst same all the way around just different volts. If you ran a 2s into a 3s and then to the esc what would that do. My esc cant hold over 21 volts total in this boat. Stock BJ26 ecs and motor in an apache hull. Its Awesome. i want to get the most volts i can in this thing with out having to buy another esc.

Easy way to explain is this.
Series curcuit voltage is added, mah stays the same
Parallel curcuit voltage stays the same mah is added.

So if you want to run 5s series you would run the same packs just different voltage. Example:So if you have a 2s 5000mah 30c pack and a 3s 5000mah 30c pack you would have 5s or 18.5v, 5000mah 30c.

Parallel you can't do that , if you wanted to run 5s parellel and you have 2 5s 5000mah 30c packs you would end up with 5s 10,000mah 30c.

5s on bj power is awesome and it doesnt damage anything only if your over volt it on over prop the motor and you blow the esc.

Yeah that helps alot and not just in the FE phase either. Ive been having trouble with the power supplies in my truck too at large volt drops (stereo) I need a new capacitor in it but im buying Lipos for the boats first lol. Anywho. thanks for all the help. i was about to say screw it and keep with Nimh just 2 9.6volt really glad i can finally jump on the band wagon.

Sweet! That is the exact charger i am useing and i have never had a problem with it! Just make sure you don't mistake the black glow plug charger as the negative alligator clip. I did that once and i made some sparks but luckily everything was fine!

Okay now as far as breaking in brand new batteries, are there settings in the charger? Am i gonna have to discharge them myself and then charge i have no idea?!?! NOOB to lipos. Should i buy anything else for them? Like an additional cut off for the esc or a seperate balancer? I dont wanna toast 200$ worth of Lipos due to pure ignorance. HELP Any thing will help. Just ordered the charger and 2- 3s 5000mah 20-30c, 2- 2s 5000mah 20-30c and the HobbyKing ECO6 50W 5A Balancer/Charger w/ accessories. Should be here next week i hope tired of looking at the boats. Nimh are junk done cooked 4 sets in like 4 months lol they were 7.2v 3000mah with like 20c burst. They were cheap!

Read the directions of the charge first and for most. When you first get the packs check the voltage of each cell threw the charge. Voltage when you receive the packs should be in "store" level meaning around 3.8c per cell. Sometimes people get a dead cell in a pack from HK. Make sure you do the warrrenty crap with the batteries and charge at a 1c rate. Meaning if the packs are 5000mah, set the charger to 5amp. Always double check your input parameters before pressing charge and always balance charge. Also this info may help.

Awesome thanks. Okay now that i read some of that stuff, IS 20c 30c burst going to be enough on a 45 amp esc? i read u need to have a higher discharge rate aswell or u can poof the batts. Im still unsure but i dont have them infront of me either. so 1- 2s 5000mah 20c 30c burst and a 3s-5000mah 20c-30c burst. should be more then enough right. In series it should be 18.5v 5000mah with a 40c and a 60c burst right? or no?

Well check how many amps your motor can pull. A bj motor is under 45 constant so as long as your batts put out more than 45amps continous your ok and yours do that.

                        5.0*20= 100amps constant

Now i guess im just gonna have to wait and maybe buy a few octura props for when the Lipos get here. or do you think the stock size prop would be okay. any how THANKS

                            Lipo Balancer.

Okay once again i know nothing but learning. as far as balancing the lipos what all do i need to buy i know squat about lipos and charging them. i get the whole dont over charge or over amp and any trama to the batt wait and observe for 15 min and never leave charger unattended. but as far as the balance affect how the hell lol.

Okay some people tell me to disconect the bec to run 5s and some say that the 45amp stock BJ ESC can handle it properly. Since the LHS guy is strictly a car guy he dont like talking boats along with most of his customers. Kinda crappy but hey thats why we have OSE.
