    Oops !!!!

Well I took my batterys nimah hot off the charger and ran the boat with the new speedmaster hardware and it handled great, brought the boat in and removed the hatch tape and got a face full of smoke, no the esc or the motor did not burn up but the hard plastic coating on the battery packs melted off.
The packs still look ok so i'm going to wrap them with some kind of tape and try and run them again and see what happens.
I guess I better let them cool alittle before running them
still working on getting lipos, looking at some zippys from hobbyking
    2s 5000mah 20c for 16.95 a pack.

I have toasted NiMHs too with high draw brushless systems - either take it easy, parallel up another set of NiMHs or go Lipo

yep, those batteries cannot handle the amp draw of a brushless boat..

Looks mean nothing, if they got that hot they are damaged. Some probably vented, others just overheated. Do not wrap them in "tape", that will end up as a gooey mess if you approach the previous temperature.

The root cause was either too high an amp load, or running too long. Starting NiMH cells off warm is good as their resistance is lower, but run them too long or at an excessive amp draw - you saw what happens.

venom does not make their own lipo batteries, they are imported with a big markup

Either way, they seem to be a good lipo. Whereas their Nimh have a terrible reputation. And are likely not made by venom either.

O.K., can we just say that who ever makes the Venom lipos does a good job, but who ever makes the venom nimh's does a not so good job?

That's one way to put it...
I've heard mix reviews on the Nimh batteries though

My information isnt first hand. Ive never owned one. Im just going by what ive heard on a bunch of different RC Car sites. Almost without question all the members who have owned them, swear against them. But, like I said, I have no first hand experience. I do have experience with their lipos though. And the 5 I have are excellent. So, I guess im one of those guys who spreads the rumour instead of investigating it first. No offence meant, just expressing my thoughts.
