New BJ Owner without maiden voyage

Hi, first Happy Holidays to all members and a happy new year.

I had this boat - a BJ 26 BL as a gift one month ago.
It is still new. I tried to program it with the program card but with another battery 7.2v 650 mah from 2ch heli toy charged on half ( in order not to burn something) as i used the port from the card to supply the power because still dont have any batteries. First connected the battery to the terminal of the program card. Then swiched power on and... nothing? no beeps at all.
    Is this normal?
Hope that i did not melt anything before the first voyage
And one more question- it came with some cracks on the front part of the hull, i already restored it completely whit epoxy and fiber glass. Can i use a clear white gelcoat mixed with 2% hardener( used for full size boats) to respray the hull fully?
Or i should use some kind of paint?
    BRGDS
    Slavi

    p.s.
sorry for my level of english but i am from Bulgaria and still learning

well i have'ent tryed powering the card with a alternitive power supply but i would belive that you also need to connect the esc to the card also ( right side of card ) you have power going into the card but you are not sending any signals to the ecs.
when you get some batterys, plug the esc to the card note where the brown wire is, it should be on the bottom terminal, with switch off connect the batterys turn switch on, you should hear one beep.
turn switch off disconnect one battery and reconnect it, you should have steering
    and throttle, hope this helps.

Well, without going into detail as far as the hull repair I can tell you the the voltage you are using is fine, however, the amperage is considerably short as it it not recomended to use any less than the low 3000's if you are using lipos and the programming module. Can you elaborate moreso on what type of power supply you RE USING (NiMh or lipo as NiCad is NOT recommended)? a photo, if possible, would be most helpful to see your setup.

        Thanks for the reply, boys.
Everything was connected propperly i checked it 3 times.
The battery that i used was from a cheap hellicopter toy NiMh 7,2v 650 mah
The ESC was connected also to the card on the proper place and correct color scheme.
For the alernative power supply from ProBoat reccomend maximum 5 volts but nobody said anything about the amperage?
The hull repair is done perfectly, asking about the finishing coat?
        Gelcoat or normal paint?
When i am ready will post some photos.

I do not understand exactly what do you mean?
The hardware is completely stock and esc is set up to:
                1. Batt. - Ni-MH
                2. Cutoff voltage - Low
                3. Cutoff type - slow down
                4. Brake - off
                5. Timing - low
                6. Throttle - logarithm
Just waiting for my godfather to paint her with fresh shiny bright blue color and the Jolly Roger as a ghost in white all over the hull

and some photos of the repair
last one is me and my "vehicle"

the colour scheme will be something mixed between these photos
as the first is as colour and second is as grafics.

                    Hi again.
Today i stripped the hull to be ready for painting tomorrow and analized that it was impossible to remove the turn fins and outdrive too. Something like a thread lock was in all bolts.
Finally have cutted them with micro disc on my grinding micro tool.
What a pain to do it .
So tomorrow is coming the new paint!
                    Fingers crossed please
                    Wish me luck.
Will post photos as soon as possible.
                    Best regards to everyone.

Best of luck on your new paint.
what kind of paint are you going to use? spray bombs or gun with air brush?
I'm just going to use spray bombs, more of a graphic type of paint scheme,
did you see my drawings under paint ideas?

My godfather is going to use professional spray gun first with automotive bright blue metalic. Then the airbrush and finally several layers of clear coat.
Yesterday he sprayed the filler and now she is totally black . After the sanding is coming the new paint. For the airbrush we decided one big scull (ghost white like smoke effect ) and lightnings all over the hull.
