Zelos 36 sparking when hooking up batteries

I'm using the harness to run 2 x 3s batteries as 6s to the escs.

A couple times now when connecting the harness I've gotten a pretty big spark that melted a bullet in the EC5 connector.

    What am I doing wrong?

I thought maybe I wasn't connecting them fast enough due to the connectors being tight, so I've been making a point to plug them in fast now. It has still sparked a bit a couple times, but at least I haven't melted another bullet yet.

However, now I have burnt one of the pins out of the harness I use to run a lvc.

    Any ideas?

I'd take the spark as a good sign that the capacitors are in good shape. I've never burned a connector on 6s though.

You have to look more carefully ,you'll seen the marks on the connectors

You need a spark arrestor. I don't usually use them on 6s but if your capacitors (cap bank) are big enough you may need them. I run 8s with no real issues. Just plug them in like you mean it.

          What's that?

I saw something on kintec racing called a spark eliminator. Is that it?

How does it work? It looks like it just adds more connectors to the harness?

Yes that is what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if Steve here has something but is is just a small resistor that allows some power to fill the capacitors so you don't get that big 'snap'.
Mine have small separate 4mm connectors that you plug in first, then plug in the main battery lead, then disconnect the 4mm connector.
You should see it on 12s with a healthy cap bank, whizbangPOP!!!
I'll look around but any electronic store should be able to help as well

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't realize there was a resistor in there too. Makes sense.

Are you running the Zelos 36 on 8S? I thought the ESC was only rated 6S?

No I don't have a Zelos as of yet in the fleet. I would have to make room for one. I have 8s on a AC Boats Lazer 40 and 12s in a Fantasm

Some of you may already know this, but the Zelos 36 will not handle 8s.
