The 1750kV 3930's will be a better performer in this hull, based on Rafael's feedback for both the Zelos and V3 cats. What props are you planning on using?

Looking good Ryan. I have completed some mods myself this week. A few weeks ago, one of my stock 3910 motors burned up. Long story short, HH warrantied it for me. However, the new 3831's were out of stock. So, I ordered a set of 3930's because they were not sure when the 3831's would be available. As it turned out, this week a pair of 3831's showed up at my doorstep. Much faster than expected. Anyway, I have the 3930's installed since last week. I got to run them but the conditions were terrible. So, no usable data yet. Hopefully, this weekend will yield better results, but its not looking good.
Another little project I took on was to double the water cooling . I installed a pair of OSE's dual thru hull fittings. I wanted to allow separate water cooling to each ESC and motor, essentially doubling the cooling capability. Hopefully, it will work.Comment

I am going to try my ABC 1814-17-45's that I worked. Yes, I did install 2 additional dumps out the sides, near where the stock ones are. I also made an attempt to get the motor mounts to bite better. I chucked up my motor mounts in my mill and milled several lines across the bottoms at a 45* angle.Last edited by vinnyp; 09-01-2017, 07:27 PM.Comment

Didn't get out on Saturday, but made it to the lake this morning. The new 3831 motors are as advertised, more efficient. My primary goal in installing them was to bring the motor and motor wire temps down. After my first 4min run, motor temps were only 130*F, and only as high as 119* while actually running. ESC's were in the mid 120's and batteries were just over 100*. The bigger connectors on the motor wires seem to be doing their job as well. A very successful day with the big yellow boat.
First run with only minor cross winds, I did 84.6mph and the boat looked great. Last weekend on the original 3910 motors, I ran a best speed of 80.1mph with the ABC 1715 props. So, as close as I could get to similar conditions, I picked up nearly 5mph and lost a lot of heat. Love it. I flipped it twice, but I was getting cocky running back into the wind. Second set of batteries, the struts were a hair more negative, maybe 0.5mm and I slid the outer two packs a little further forward. Lost a few mph, but the wind had picked up significantly. I did a perfect aerial barrel roll corkscrew type maneuver and landed business side down. Wish REDLINE had video of that one, never touched the water. Last flip, the boat was spinning on its lid while still moving down the lake a what looked to be 40+mph. Thought for sure that one was going to rip the antenna off.
REDLINE's Zelos was still running wet after he blueprinted the bottom of his hull. He only made a few passes and I told him to bring it back in and I knew how to get the bow up. We swapped his Octura 447's for my set of ABC 1814's and sent it back out. Sure enough, boat floated along dead steady and I think he ran his best speed ever of 73mph. Don't think I'm getting those props back anytime soon
Hope to get back tomorrow.

Thanks Vinny. And I don't think I actually ever thanked you for the strut gauge you made and shipped to me. Thank you very much. While technically, I think the absolute measurement scale is a hair off, it doesn't matter, as it's an incremental tool that I use to make even changes to both sides, +/- a half mm at a time. works great.Vac-U-Tug Jr (13mph)Comment

I got to run the Zelos with the 3930's today. While I am not happy with the speed number, I do see room for improvement. I have been fighting bad wind here lately. Today was no exception. Luckily, the wind was a cross wind, maybe 10-12 mph, blowing in from the beach. If I stayed as close to shore as possible the water was decent.
As you can see , the speed number is not very good. I was expecting quite a bit more with these motors. The good news is that it ran well. Bow was nice and flat, just bounced over some of the chop. My surprise was finding the temps as low as they were. Granted the air temp today was only in the low 70's. If you look back at post 2154, you will see that I did some modifications to the water pickups. I don't think that alone would have made the temps as low as they are. I am thinking that these motors can turn bigger props. Currently, I am running a set of ABC 1814-17-45's. Although a larger set of props will load these motors more, building up more heat, it may be the ticket for more speed. If you look at Raphaels video of his boat with these motors, he says he thinks he is running 1814-15-60 3 blades. Can you guys give a novice some advice on this one?Comment
