The fin provides an anchor point and resistance to the stern of the boat sliding against the force of the rudder when you turn. Without it turning is not as sharp.

I made a port side fin for my SV27 and I have really been enjoying the boat a lot more since I did. I made the fin just a bit longer than the right side....so now I think I am going to make another for the right. The boat sticks better turning to the left than it does to the right now. Especially in rough water.

Yes, with the turn fin and added weight under the motor, this boat has become really enjoyable. I used to have to really slow down to get a turn down without getting all out of shape. I would usually have to retrieve it, or have at least a flip that resulted in a "right side up" state and could keep going at least once every other run. I just figured that I didn't understand how to operate a fast boat correctly...so I thought I would just have to learn. In the mean time I did the little tweaks that are mentioned throughout this forum on the SV7.
I found out those tweaks are really worth it!!! I'm going to have to sell some planes now because I have gotten hooked on this fast electric thing. Now I need to get some other guys in my area infected with the bug so we can have some races

I built a little shovel nose hydro back when I was in college that used a .15 engine, but never put it in the water. I wish I had that boat now with the leaps made in electrics since back then. I've been mainly into helis and planes for the last 20 odd years. I've dabbled with a few nitro trucks as well. I just went 4 years of doing nothing but flying helis and decided I needed a break. I have a friend that wanted me to get his Villian going again for him, and before I even put it into the water I had bought me a SV27..... I have never been one to sell any of my rc stuff, I just seem to hang on to most of it. I'm seriously considering selling a couple of planes now for more batteries and a charger that will do more than 5 amps
