    New to FE, suggestions

Got offered used (only ran once supposedly, in perfect condition, etc) a BJ26 with two 4600 6 cell packs for $200, but I'm leaning towards getting a new SV27 since I won't have to spend a bunch of money upgrading the hardware other than a set of turn fins and some adjustable trim tabs. I'm also looking at the Grim Racer 42x55 prop which seems to be widely suggested. I know you guys probably get the "How Fast" question a lot for different setups, but what do you think the boat will run with two 2S lipos and the 42x55 on the stock motor and esc? What about temps? I'm wanting it to be fairly reliable but put out some decent speed, maybe close to 40 if that's possible. I know with much higher than 40 and the hull become really unstable.

Anyhow, I already have a Trinity Reference Series 5000mah 7cell pack, and it'll run me another $60 to pick up another one to run in the SV27. I'm thinking about just going to lipos since I already have the charger and run other lipos in my rock crawler and I'm comfortable with them. I'm also thinking about going to lipos since I want to use them in my stadium truck as well and can use the same ones I buy for the boat.

I'm looking at the 20C Constant, 30C burst 5000mah 2S Zippys from hobbycity. They're super cheap at $28 a pop, and they have a pretty good reputation. What I'm wondering though, is will 20C cut it on the SV27? I can't find a Zippy 5000mah 2S in 25 or 30C is why I'm asking. Anything else I've found that's comparable in specs is twice the price.

Just read the thread down below about the 7.4v 5000mah 20C zippys, seem like they'd be ok for the SV27, would like to hear more opinions though. Unless I hear a lot of opposition to them, I'll probably order a couple by the end of the week.

For a stock motor and 42x55 prop I would give the Zippy batteries a try. The boat should run comfortably at 35 mph with that. If you set it up to run real loose it can reach 40 but very unstable. Temps should be cool. You can do the battery testing for us! Let us know how they work.
I use a UL-1 motor now with the stock speed control and speed is 40 and very stable because I added weight as has been suggested here. CG is 8.5 inches from the rear.

One problem is the Zippy cells are backordered over 200 units. So get on their waiting list and keep an eye out on e-bay. I picked up 2 5000 2s packs for 50.00 each last week. They were made in the same factory in Shanghi as the Zippys.

Best advise is to read as much as you can. It will save you money. Just my 0.2

Yeah, I just had them put me on the list to notify me when the batts are in stock. They're usually pretty good about stocking back up quickly, so we'll see. Until then, I have a couple nicd packs laying around I can use, they're only like 1500 or 1900's, so I won't get but a few minutes out of them. They'll at least let me get used to driving it and take care of any other issues before I start speeding things up with lipos.

I've been reading through on how to prep the hull and all that. I may even strip the ano off the hardware and polish it like yours as well as paint up the boat (speaking of which, if you want to maybe give out a little how-to on that it would be cool, especially for people with dremels...like what polishing compounds and all that). Just all depends on how froggy I'm feeling I guess. I'm just glad I'm finally getting back around to getting another boat, I got pretty bored with my little Hammer EP. I've been putting off buying another boat for the last few months due to getting married and family stuff, so it's nice to be back!

Another thing I was thinking about, and maybe it's a useless idea, but I like to tinker around with things....has anyone attempted to run a third channel to a servo and linkage designed to adjust the trim tabs on the fly? The reason I ask is because I run a DX3R in all my rc vehicles and I'm not using the aux channel for anything on the boat. I know many people will just adjust the trim tabs and leave it be, but it might be nice to be able to adjust them on the fly for changing water conditions and whatnot. It may not be a necessary thing, but interesting nonetheless. Anyone?
