Hi everyone,
A while back I smoked the stock esc in my SV27, you can read the thread on it here.
As the other thread shows, I picked up an ETTI 150 esc, I also fixed my battery issues, my other 6cell NIMH packs have battery bars. And of coarse the drive line is smooth, and correct room at the strut.
Anyways, I ordered some lipos, and was getting geared up to try them out, but I notice it seemed my Motor, and ESC caps were starting to be much hotter to touch, after some recent runs. I ran to the local hobby shop, and picked up a temp gun, and I ordered an eagle tree logger.
I fixed my wiring for the logger (all my connectors are bullets except for right at the battery), and charged up the Nimh's to test whats going on before I ran the lipo's. To my surprise, the boat made 5-6 laps, and shut off, I recovered the boat, and checked the temps...esc caps were upper 140's, as well as the end cap on the motor, the cells in the batteries were all in the 120 range, the logger itself was not that warm, forget the exact temp.
The log showed the max amp draw to be 88 amps
, My first thought in light of my other thread was a drive line issue. The drive line appeared fine, the drive dog was clear of the strut, and the stuffing tube was not warm at all by temp gauge at th time I opened the hatch. I broke the driveline down, and checked it all out, and everything seems in working order.
I reassembled everything today. went to make a pass...the motor would barely turn over...I checked the bullets on the motor, and one had a bad connect. I re soldered the bullet connectors, and got setup to make a pass.
I ran for about 2 minutes, then pulled it in..seemed to run good. Pulled hatch, everything looked fine. End bell temp on motor was upper 120's, ESC caps was 110-120, batteries were upper 90's to 100's. Pulled logger, and the max amp draw is still 78 amps.
I'm kind of puzzled...this seems like pretty high amp draw for a stock SV27 motor. running a grimracer 40x52/3blade prop.
the only thing that is coming to mind, is the motor is going bye-bye.. I've never run a thrust bearing, I bought one a while back, and my better half conveniently stored it someplace (the trash) along with my new adjustable trim tabs
.
Pic of log is attached.
Any other ideas, thought?
Larry
