    SV27 Upgrade Problems

I'm quite sure I've figured out the answer to most of these issues, but I figure I will post anyway and let the experts offer their opinions.

Started with a bone stock SV-27, and just upgraded to the following:

Motor - Electrifly Ammo 36-50-2300Kv Brushless Inrunner Motor

    Water Jacket - Stock

ESC - Aquacraft 60-Amp Marine ESC LiPo Ready

    Prop - Aquacraft Grimracer 42 x 55 2-Blade

    Batteries - 2 x Thunderpower 2S 40C 5000mah Lipo

Boat WAS an absolute rocket, although a bit unstable (chine walking, and total loss of control at times on the high end)

All of a sudden it stops dead in it tracks.... After retrieving it I noticed it smelled a bit hot. After taking the hatch off, and checking the temps, the motor had gotten over 200 degrees, and the ESC was at around 140.

Obviously the stock cooling setup on these SV27's including the water jacket is not adequate for the larger motor???

Motor is dead... ESC is still good. (checked it by plugging the stock motor back in)

I just ordered a bunch of upgrades for the cooling system, including pick up tube and new water jacket, and a new motor.

Any tips, suggestions on getting the boat to not loose control on the high end?

Anything else I should be concerned about?

    Thanks!

I figured the motor would be fine and the esc would have blew...

I had my old SV on an Ammo2300 with 28c 5000's with an Octura 442, seems to run great...im lost on your issue man...

Did you test the ESC under a load or while on land with no load?
      Many issues!!!

Under no load... which I thought may not be a good test. However testing the Ammo motor fails.... runs for about 2 revolutions and stops.

Putting the stock motor back on the ESC runs with no problems.

I'm 99.9% sure the ESC is fine.

Yes... they make 40C as does SMC... My main hobby is RC Oval Car Racing... we run the 40C batteries as they seem to put out the highest voltage under load.

As far as the handling issue goes, try the hint posted by Darin Jordan in this thread.

I have the similar set up and today my stock ESC caught on fire and it fried. The stock motor and ESC is absolutely junk!
