    final prop question

after reading just about every prop thread, ive come down to these , i run a stock sv, the only prop ive tried is the two blade prather 220, the thing gets on plane quick and really takes off, its a little jumpy out of turns and my batteries get kinda hot (2 venom 5000 8.4 nimh) the boat is plenty fast . please the pros and cons of x440-3, x440, gr 40-52 3 blade, x642 and m445 . I know its a lot of compairing butt this can probably help a lot of guys thanks

if your equipment is getting hot...methinks you might need to prop down a wee bit. an octura x640 might work better for you than the pr220.

And it isn't just pitch, different props will cause different amounts of lift which effects the way the boat runs and handles. IME the best bang for the buck on an SV27 comes with these mods as recommended by Brian:

      - GrimRacer 42x55 prop
      - Steven's adjustable trim tabs for the SV27
      - Turn fins on both sides
      - Six ounces of lead added under the motor

One club member recently fitted out his SV this way and the boat was SO much better! To me, the biggest gain was from the lead....

IMO when Fluid talks I listen! I have all those parts except for the lead. I assume the SV he is talking about has Lipo batteries. In what way does the lead make the boat better? Is it more stable, or actually faster?

from what I've seen, it makes the boat a LOT more stable so you can go faster.

Thanks to both of you guys the weights make a big difference in turning mostly, very sharp.

If you don't mind me asking, How was the lead configured? 1 6oz strip directly under the motor, 2 3oz strips on each side of the v hull under the motor.... ETC...

What was the location, size, and capicity of the batts?

                  Thanks
                  Mike

I am new to the SV27 club too and just got the octura x442 prop should I go back and exchange it for the x440??? will the x442 prop "heat" up my sv like sewerpits prop did?? my sv is all stock and I'm running 2 venom 8.4v 5000mah batts as well. Will the lead help with my batts too or is that mostly a lipo "mod"???

                    Thanks
                    -Chris

The X642 or M445 are good choices, there are others like the CF45 and more. The batteries make all the differnce. I like the IB3600 cell although nearly impossable to get. I will run them against Lipos anyday. I recently got those EP4500 cells and do not like them..sorry. Honestly like the Tenergy 4500 (red) cells better, even though there more like 4200's. They produce much more voltage and punch then the EP cells. The best are the IB cells. Lipos are solid to but the boat cant win flipped over. The X642 gives a fast stable ride, the M445 gives you a more wild and quick ride. G/L

thanks, really dont want to go lipo the baot can be fast enough with the right prop and non lipo battery set up just if you can fill me in a little more about the ib3600 who makes them and whats the diffrence between ib and ep sorry if its a stupid question but any new knowledge is always good

I am not the one to tell you the tec differnce I can tell you how the boat reacts. I have a bunch of differnt cells, all packs are built custom with bars and 12G wire. I will list them in order of which I feel are worst to best, this is just my experiance with what I got. Least best is the Tenergy 4500 (propel) yes they last long, and they work but lack the punch and top end speed, run them to low and there burning hot. Next is the EP4500, they lack the punch, they dont charge to a high voltage and some cells fail very often, they also get hot. Next is the Tenergy 4500 (red) cells I actually like them very much but there not 4500's more like 4200's and you cant run them way down because they will get hot, but a timed run I rate them a hair below the IB3600 cell. Then I have a set of Lipo's 7.4 5350's by Poly RC. Awsom packs, packs kick ass, put them in my truck, or car and you can not beat them. The punch is solid as it gets and top end screams. The same in the boat but there to light for my liking in the boat. The I like the best for the SV is the IB3600 packs which are more like 4100's, they just kick butt, they make the boat stable and I feel if I had to race someone I would use my IB3600 custom built matched packs that Steve from Battlepacks built me. The problem is those cells are not easy to get and even if you find them you have to question if there from the good stuff.
