i ran my super vee today and my batteries are getting real hot, like 150-155 degrees. any suggestions on how i can get my temps down? my set-up is, stock motor (motor temp is 165degrees), stock speed control, 4s lipos, and a prather 225 prop. is that motor temp to high also? i need help please, new to fast electrics.

The problem is not inadequate cooling - it is too high an amp draw. The LiPos deliver a lot more power than NiMH cells, so you have to either prop down, or limit your running to ~2 minutes. As has been said, prop down. The x440 will give a lower amp draw and longer run times, but less speed too.
In all probability the water flow is adequate to cool the motor and ESC with reasonable amp draws. It does not take a large flow to cool these parts, particularly as the pond water temperature drops this time of year.

Few things to check and do. Make sure the hose is not kinked anyplace. Run a small drill bit in the water pickup to make sure its open, maybe open it a tad. A OSE water jacket for 14 bucks does wonders. Check the shaft to ensure its not binding and keep it greased. Dont run your 7.2v batterys down to far. Prop selection, I feel a CF45 or a X642 is about right and should work to keep temps safe. Also if your running wet it will heat everything. I am a loose fan. Keep the strut even or slightly positive and put the trim tabs slightly positive. Check both with a staight edge. Hold the straight edge even with the bottom of the boat and check it, you might be surprized. Go slightly positive.Last edited by ice329; 10-29-2007, 11:00 AM.Comment

Lots of good suggestions here. I think the prop is way to large. Most guys are running a s215.Steven Vaccaro

Prop and running wet will heat everything. Binding will also have affect on battery. Also quality of the batterys and legnth you run them. Even my rock solid IB3600 packs if ran till there almost flat dead would be smoking. Sounds like prop and a few adjustments should help. The other stuff I wrote almost should be done regardless. Unfortunately you are over working the batteries and motor. Something has to change or eventually you will be replacing both. Or worse yet, overwork the lipos and the boat may burn to the water line.Steven Vaccaro
