Boating noob here but have been into rc cars/trucks for a while now. Traded for a used supervee 27 and would like some guidance on where to start. I plan to use my car lipos to run this. Could use some waterproofing advice as well as floatation info, and how to maintain/improve driveline. First thing I noticed was I can't spin prop by hand. Read some info on this board but answer doesnt' seem very clear. What maintainence can I do to make sure things are lubricated/sealed properly? Also noticed it looks like the water cooling line leaving ESC is kinked. Is this also common? What about simple upgrade props? Any tutorials on alternative ways to hold down batteries? My lipos don't fit the compartments well.

First off, congrats on your SV27! It's a great boat to get into this hobby with.
What kind of LiPos do you have? The SV27 needs 2x 2s lipos, and I recommend at least 5000mah, although I do have a pair of 4000's that also run great. The ESC in the boat does not include a LiPo Cutoff, so you will need to purchase a LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) for the boat...

Waterproofing... To keep the hatch down, use both the screw and hatch tape. I recommend the Renfrew Hockey Tape, which you can buy at most sports stores. Everyone on here will probably agree that it's the best one. It will keep the hatch in place, and will prevent any water from leaking into the boat if you flip. Which you will. Haha.
Also, some guys stick a pool noodle to the inside of the hatch. I didn't do that, but you can do so by cutting the right size of pool noodle and glueing it in with Shoe Goo.
You won't be able to spin the propellor by hand easily, you need to really turn it to get it to spin. That's not a problem, so don't worry. For the driveline/flex shaft, you'll need some grease...

This will keep the boat running smoothly, and will prevent water from coming in through the shaft.
If your water cooling is leaking, you can easily replace the tubing or the water jacket. To check if it's leaking, unplug the tube from the rudder, put some water in your mouth, and blow through it. If there are no leaks, you're good! If there are, you can get a new water jacket or tubing, whichever is leaking. Kintec sells great water jackets, and I have one myself.
You'll find a lot of great parts for your SV27 on that page.
I also recommend removing your radio box and replacing it with a tray. Kintec sells one and you'll find it on the previous link. I see that he also has a carbon fiber one now, looks cool! The tray will give you much easier access to your electronics, and it looks nice! First though, make sure your boat is waterproof. I put silicone on all the screws in the back of the boat, and dumped some epoxy in the rear of the boat over the brass stuffing tube. It helps keep it in place and stops water from coming in.
As for props, EVERYONE will tell you to get the Grim Racer 42x55 prop. It will get you great speed and it's the only prop you'll want. Make sure you get it Sanded and Balanced though. If you can't do that yourself, and don't worry I can't either, there is a member on the forums who does a great job.

The battery trays in the boat are in the wrong place. You want the Center of Gravity to be 8 3/4" from the stern (rear of the boat). Remove the battery trays completely, and apply a full length of velcro to where you find the CG with your batteries.
I hope this helps. I don't think I missed anything.SV27 w/ Ammo 2300 / Stock ESC || Pursuit w/ Leopard 4074 2200kv / SeaKing 120a ESC || MHZ Drambuie on Ice w/ 2x Schulze 4.160wk's / 2x Neu 2215 1.5y's -
I run a bunch of the china 5kmah 7.2 lipos. I'll have to purchase the cutoff.
As far as waterproofing goes - is remounting the rx antenna a popular mod? The hole the antenna goes through should be waterproofed but that is impossible if we are removing the hatch. Ideally I'd switch to a 2.4 system with short antenna and just eliminate that hole but that's not going to happen at this time.
I actually had a miss bud nitro boat i swapped for a while ago. It sat most of the time. The one time I tried to run it was unsucessful. I don't think I was even able to get the motor tuned correctly as I couldn't run it out of water and no water was close enough to be convenient. That soured me on the whole boat thing for quite a while but I figure electric would be much easier. I still have a roll of clear electric tape that was sent with that boat (I believe) for hatch sealing. Would that suffice and not tear up the finish?
When I was reading about that miss bud autobailers were mentioned. Is this an issue with this model?
I also recieved a jar of grease with this model and plan to liberally use it before first run.
Other easy mods I should consider? trim tabs? turning rudder under?Comment

Do you mean 7.4v lipos? I have never used 7.2, and I actually haven't heard of them.
Oh yes the antenna hole. For that, I got the antenna mount from Kintec. It is on the page that I sent you earlier. That will waterproof the hole, until you get a 2.4GHz radio of course! And once you get the 2.4GHz radio you can use the antenna mount without the tube, it keeps the hole waterproof and I think it looks good.
I used to have a nitro traxxas truck, and the maintenance and tuning overwhelmed me and I got rid of it. I've been sticking to electric ever since, and so far, I like it a lot more! Electric tape will work good, many people use it as well.
I'm not sure what you mean with the autobailers, but I've never heard anything about them and the SV27. So probably not a problem.
These are the trim tabs I recently got...

They're great, and stay in place after you adjust them. You want to leave them neutral on the SV27, it will work best that way.
I keep my rudder tucked in, someone recommended it a while ago, and it's been working quite well. Maybe it doesn't need to be tucked after balancing the boat, but you can tuck it in anyway.SV27 w/ Ammo 2300 / Stock ESC || Pursuit w/ Leopard 4074 2200kv / SeaKing 120a ESC || MHZ Drambuie on Ice w/ 2x Schulze 4.160wk's / 2x Neu 2215 1.5y'sComment

I did mean 7.4 lipo. Was typing that at work so was in a hurry. I don't quite follow "tucking the rudder in" though?
Just got finished pulling the drive shaft and greasing it up. Going to wrap batteries in bubble wrap to hold them in place just for a test run tommorow. Long term I can see myself fiberglassing in some adjustable velcro straps. Gotta check out that prop too, i love speed.Comment

Oh cool, I've never seen that done, and I don't see a reason to. If you get your boat properly sealed and stable, it'll be fine. I wouldn't bother doing that.
Tucking in the rudder means angling it in. There are 2 screws that loosen the angle of the rudder, loosen those and pull the bottom of the rudder in towards the boat, and retighten them. That is referred to as "tucking in the rudder."
The velcro straps seem to hold fine, just make sure you use the heavy duty type. Some people use gorilla glue, which seems like a good idea. I think I'll do that too.
And yes, the prop is worth it! I use a 40x52 prop right now, and have the 42x55 prop on order. You definitely want to get it sanded and balanced. When it isn't, the prop causes a drag on the motor and won't give you the speed you want. I have a GPS receiver on order and then I'll see what my speeds are!SV27 w/ Ammo 2300 / Stock ESC || Pursuit w/ Leopard 4074 2200kv / SeaKing 120a ESC || MHZ Drambuie on Ice w/ 2x Schulze 4.160wk's / 2x Neu 2215 1.5y'sComment

Lots of good pics to refer to in Wizards link. But I think I covered mostly everything, let me know how that boat is coming along!SV27 w/ Ammo 2300 / Stock ESC || Pursuit w/ Leopard 4074 2200kv / SeaKing 120a ESC || MHZ Drambuie on Ice w/ 2x Schulze 4.160wk's / 2x Neu 2215 1.5y'sComment
