motor starts smoking on the bench help guys : (

So guys i just got done rebuilding my sv27 that i purchase from a older lady for very cheap. It came with no motor mount, motor, broken rudder and a broken prop. Tested on the bench with two 2s 20c 5000mah batteries and the motor starts smoking after about 5 seconds of full throttle on the bench? are my bearings bad? is there a wrong way to wire up the motor? its stock motor and esc. thanks guys

Difficult to say what might be causing the smoke. But dont run a motor on the bench at wide open throttle for more then just a sec or 2. All you need to do is see if the motor spins up. Full throttle without a load really can get the motor hot fast!

Check the connectors for continuity. Maybe you have one thats not making a good contact. Bearings shouldnt be smoking unless they are well used and clunky. Depending on the gen of SV27 motor you have some of the older style had cold solder joints or poor factory soldering. Did the motor get hot when it started smoking?

Never never never run any BL motor on the bench at full throttle! Nothing good comes of it, and lots of bad things happen. With no load the motor will generate a lot of heat fast. You can exceed the speed of the bearings, damaging them permanently. You can throw a magnet, destroying the motor. Do not do it! Do not do it!

okay never run the motor full throttle on the bench again check! i was just checking if it was going to cut out on me or not. The smoke might of been from the high rpms. I'm going to take it out to the pond tomorrow and see if the motor holds up! wish me luck!
