    Painting SV27

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but I would like to know what to paint my SV27 with. I want to give it a new paint job, but there are just so many options I don't know which is best.

Diesel suggested Duplicolor, and said it's a popular paint. I looked to buy one, and there are around like 50 different white ones Which particular one do I want to get? I would just like to paint the boat white at first, and then maybe add some black accents.

Can you please write what you used if you've painted yours before?

    Thanks in advance

Epoxy Paints http://www.krylon.com/products/epoxy_enamel_paint are popular. Try not to use Lacquer paint it tends to chip and not hold up well though. Also Polyurethane paint.

Polyurethane will stick to gelcoat w/ no need of a primer and hold up very well. Not sure if the SV is painted or gelled. Epoxy sticks very well to both and then paint, such as duplicolor can be applied over it (after a scuffing of 400 grit) and then a clear coat can be applied. Both ways are the only two ways I would do it.

Epoxy as a base and paint over it is generally the method I use. Ive been extremely successful using the ACE brand epoxy paint.

Thanks! So I'll get that Krylon Epoxy Paint. If I use that, do I need to sand it down after and then paint it with the duplicolor? Or is just the epoxy paint enough?

From what I'm understanding it's... 1- White Krylon Epoxy Paint 2- Sand w/ 400 grit 3- White Duplicolor 4-Clear Coat.

        Is that correct?

If you white epoxy it, you dont have to white paint it. But yes, scuff it if your going to paint it, then follow the directions for clear etc for whatever paint, if any, you put over it.

Epoxy paint is often used because it has a much better bite to gelcoats etc than a primer such as duplicolor will have. And once cured its very tough.

I think I'm going to white epoxy it. Seems like the best option for me. So all I have to do is use that? I don't have to clear coat it, or do I?

No you do not have to clear it. If you do your last coat as a nice even "wet" coat, it will remain nice and glossy.

No problem. Make sure you scuff the hull before you spray.

Yup, I will. It was patched up a bit after a crash a while ago and I think it's time for a paint job.
