It should come out from the back of the stinger once the flex assy is removed. You can use a dental tool with a small hook or even bend a paper clip into a hook and pull back on it by engaging the hook section into one of the multiple grease holes cut into the bushing assy. Normally they slide right out with out much trouble. About 3 inches long. They should be regreased often. Maybe not after every run but certainly within a couple outings. The flex assy itself should be removed after every day's outing on the water and dried out and regreased. Make it a habit and you will not be surprised by a rusty, binding drive line.
ok so what holds that bushing in the stinger??? i got SV gear to put on a home made Vee and the bushing can slide right through the strut?! it seems like it should be a press fit but it has lots of play. if some one could show me how it look apart it would be helpfull. thanks!
Normaly there is a little friction from the stuffing tube that keeps the bushing from just sliding out. But there are some boats with stuffing tubes slightly large enough or the bushing is slightly smaller and that does allow the bushing to spin or simply slide out. The drive dog keeps the bushing from sliding all the way out. So it cant fall out if the flex assy is attached to the motor. On a stinger assy like the aeromarine or similar the bushing slides directly into the stinger. The flex tube is flush with the transom (or fairly close). On a SV27/UL1 the bushing slides right into the stuffing tube since it goes thru either the stinger or strut.
