    Water pick up.

I saw that one of the changes to the 27R is a new water pick up design. My SV27 has one in the rudder. Does the new style flow more water? Is it a drag that slows the boat? Is it worth the cost and install time?

The new water pickup is definitely better than the rudder pickup, IMO. I heard some people drill the hole in the rudder to be a little larger allowing more water to flow through, but I haven't tried so myself.

Being not very big, I doubt it would cause a drag on the boat. I think it's worth the cost, and instal time shouldn't be too long.

The water pickup is more than enough. I used to run an additional transome pickup. IME it made the boat do funny things and cooling was not much more effective.

FWIW I use a single rudder pickup in my twin cat and it has more than enough water flowing through.
