    If this is a known good motor, I would try another ESC before the motor is damaged.

        it's a used motor- that's why I'm trying to narrow down the problem. I have another ESC coming- I guess I'll have to wait and try it.

          If your running too wet with that 2300, temps will get out of control very VERY quickly. Try setting the tabs a few degrees positive & run a little loose.

            well, I think we have an answer! got my CC Hydra 120 back today- hooked everything up, and after some difficulty programming, ran great, not hot and fast.... for about 3 minutes, then nothing. after getting out the kayak, opening it up and found a blown apart (literally) ESC. I guess it was the motor? not sure this hobby stuff is doing much for my mental stability.
