    Wet Batteries

I have duratrax 4200mAh batteries that have a clear plastic casing around them. I assume I'm supposed to leave this casing on the batteries for support. My boat flipped and a lot of water came in. Now there is water vapor inside this clear battery casing. Do I need to dry out the batteries and get rid of this water? If so, how? I was hoping that charging them would warm them up enough and this water would go away, but it didn't.

I use spray electrical contact cleaner (you prob can get some from electrical section of home depot) to spray my batteries out then let them set for a few hours. Not sure if it's right or not, but works for me. I do it with my lipos as well. Make sure you tape your hatch real good next time.

Can you expand on taping the hatch? What exactly should I do?

Put the cowl on latch it then use hatch tape around the top where the cowl meets the hull to cover the small gap. You should really consider upgrading your latch as well. The stock one sometimes pops unlatched and in a blowover you dont want to lose your cowl.

Upgraded latch with pre-cut foam is 6th item down the page then hatch tape is towards the bottom. http://www.kintecracing.com/Supervee_27_upgrades.html

I checked out Kineticracing.com, they have a lot of nice accessories there. I'm gonna order the upgraded latch, and some other items. This is a terribly designed website, though. A bunch of items don't have prices listed and one doesn't have an add to cart button, so you can't even buy it.

If it doesn't have a "add cart button" it's not in stock, if it doesn't have a price click the add to cart and it will give you one. Theirs a lot of cool stuff their as well as here on OSE. You'll get use to the website. It's not that bad.

You can replace heat shrink. Water intrusion is at times a factual occurance and if it happens just adapt. Buy some stock and replace it. Maintain an inventory for your hardware. You will find a happy medium in your boating experience. Some setups will require you to adjust. I recommend you buy a heat shrink gun or a hair dryer if not married or hooked up. If you want to pursue the this hobby get the tools needed. They are varied but allow you to overcome obstacles thrown in your path. Dont see problems. See everything as a challenge.

Or you can do what I did and ditch the latch all together. Its not needed while taped down. Remove it, plug the hole w/ a little epoxy and be done w/ it.

And yes, electrical tape.. much cheaper and easier to find. Clear 3M tape works very well.

I've got a heat gun; I use heat shrink for electronics and have an assortment of smaller size heat shrink. Do they make heat shrink specifically for this application, or should I just look around for anything that's big enough to fit round the battery back?

Here is a good assortment of shrink wrap - scroll down towards the bottom. Get a few different sizes to see what works best for your application.
